NIH indirects case update: Hearing ongoing now, and I'll try to live tweet some notable exchanges. Prior to more detailed arguments, Judge Kelley starts off with a few point questions to both sides: (I'm paraphrasing here)

Twitter’s evolution into ‘state media’ continues. The #DOGE website goes live: x.com/doge

I wonder how one possibly justifies any of these actions

Government of South Africa takes Trump to school:

Executive wants to frame the NIH indirects cut as $4B in savings. But given that NIH returns $2.5 on every $1 investment, this would actually cost US economy a net $6 BILLION (per year!). Not to mention the human costs of wrecking education and research sectors and the communities they serve.

Amid today’s massive NIH cuts to universities, please know that my research colleagues: - Develop new cancer treatments for kids - Are curing sickle cell disease - Build new tech to help premature babies survive - Prevent teens from dying of drug overdose - And more #NIH #MedSky #research #science

Cancer research and care should never be politicized or jeopardized. This World Cancer Day, we must recommit to ensuring access to life-saving treatment and preventative care.

If you work for or with #USAID in a country where critical, potentially life-saving medical care has been put on hold/canceled because of the shutdown and can share real-time facts about the impact on the ground, please hit me up on Signal @mollykraskin

Read this and check your moral compass. What's happening is not only un-American, it's inhuman. #USAID

This is evil. www.nytimes.com/2025/02/06/h...

Rubio claims that @USAID lifesaving assistance for health and humanitarian needs will continue. But his team just communicated that the entire agency will be imminently reduced from 14,000 to 294 people. Just 12 in Africa.

Nothing to see here, folks.

“Audacious”? Truly disgusting.

Gov JB Pritzker (R-IL) signs order prohibiting Jan 6 rioters from state employment in Illinois: “I hereby direct CMS to apply the State Personnel Code and consider any participation in the January 6 insurrection as infamous and disgraceful conduct that is antithetical to the mission of the State”

FBI agents are stunned by the scale of Donald Trump’s expected purge of the bureau, which could include hundreds of agents and officials, @shaneharris.bsky.social reports.

This is medical and scientific health data being blocked. We cannot go down this road. It is dangerous and sets our whole field back. @aphapublichealth.bsky.social

The attack on our country's public media - one of the cornerstones of our Democracy - has begun. #PBS #NPR #publicmedia www.nytimes.com/2025/01/30/b...

And so it begins.

Trump freezes all medical research funding to NIH. If you or someone you care for has cancer, heart disease, diabetes, or many countless illnesses that needs a cure, this could be devastating. Researchers say, Our work saves lives. How can it be political? #NIH www.science.org/content/arti...

Feel deep in my bones that the backlash to all of this is going to be enormous. Not sure how it will manifest and when it will explode into view, but confident it’s coming.

Many Jan. 6 Rioters Pardoned by Trump Attacked Police, Videos Show. Here are some of the most egregious acts of violence that took place during the Capitol attack, as seen in videos of convicted parties now pardoned by Trump. (By Alan Feuer and Dmitriy Khavin) www.nytimes.com/2025/01/23/u...

The assault on NIH is a test for how the national media covers the Trump admin: Trump is shutting down medical research! That is easy to communicate. Will they treat it as a 5 alarm fire in a way that forces the government to respond, or will they downplay & caveat it?

The Washington Post editorial this morning essentially equating Biden's questionable pardons with Trump's outrageous Jan. 6 pardons was unconscionable. The newspaper I've been part of for 48 years has utterly lost its soul.
