remember stuff like this when they tell you that diversity means a lowering of standards

Jim Acosta announces on air that he's leaving CNN and says, "it is never a good time to bow down to a tyrant ... don't give in to the lies."

Look, we tried to warn people. At this point, the only way out is through. Trump will precipitate a collapse and only then can we rebuild towards a better future. Our goal is to minimize the number of people we lose along the way. Build community, help others. Resilience is all we have.

Wow

These people have never read a book about antiquity or have any idea how big their world was, North Africa fed Europe, Roman Emperors were from everywhere from Tunisia to Serbia, and not to put a fine a point on it, the Levant is not exactly next door to Rome bsky.app/profile/shar...

Far right accounts will be hunting for people on social to post about and being attention to so they get their documents revoked. Far right accounts like libs of tiktok are essentially private stasi on the payroll of the oligarchs.

They thought they had punched their ticket to the top of the financial world and they’re finding out that nobody actually took them seriously, they were just using them to make some easy money. The finance guys are smart enough to see what crypto is, the problem is the crypto guys aren’t.

“We must accept finite disappointment, but never lose infinite hope.” - Dr. Martin Luther King

Americans aren't aware how much the illusion of normalcy persists under an authoritarian regime. There's no washed-out camera filter that kicks in. Everyone's not goosestepping everywhere they go. You can have a radically unfree society while most people, most of the time, just go about their lives.

Sniveling dweebs, the lot of them.

my 'liberal pessimism' thesis: we have a fundamental asymmetry between a party that has goals which require stable frameworks and durable institutions for accomplishing public governance, and a party whose goals involve the general promotion of dysfunction for private advantage.

Just cause I’m not in the club anymore doesn’t mean I forgot what’s in the book!

one thing i’m stuck on is this idea that “masculine” energy means license to act like a chud in public, as opposed to more traditional notions of public masculinity, such as those that put a premium on the performance of integrity, honesty, honor and generosity.

It really is such masculine energy to blame things on a woman who no longer works at the company www.nytimes.com/2025/01/16/u...

as was said long ago: AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA--

Everyone who is like, "Omg he drank three gin and tonics for BREAKFAST!," have you considered maybe he carries the soil from Laguardia airport in his pocket so airport rules always apply?

This is correct.

There is no such thing as “masculine energy.” It’s imprecise because it’s a euphemism. He is saying there are too many women in the workforce.

We wouldn’t allow any other bureaucracy to do this

these people really are the biggest piss babies on the planet

The measles outbreak he was a direct contributor to in Samoa was when this chart was at a local peak, what are you doing with this article here?

"The goal of targeting trans women’s participation in sports is to create a federal law that declares trans women are men. Once that precedent is established, then the laws can become more restrictive until it’s no longer legally viable to exist as a trans person under federal law." 👇

you can see this in education too - to a degree it's always been the case. of course this prompts chuds to declare that education/jobs has to change so that men can do better again

They are so desperate to return to having a wife that can't leave them because they're unable to support themselves and to return to the insult "you'll die alone with your cats" have the implication that it also means scraping by in a low paying patriarchy approved role.

We see literally every day that Emperor Meritocracy has no clothes. Musk, Thiel, Andreessen. These people are not smart. They're not interesting thinkers. They have the intellectual discernment of some of the worst Internet-poisoned Boomers you know. Zuckerberg is a hapless follower.

Are you fucking kidding? Fox News says the dams being torn down that will restore Native sovereignty to many groups like the Yurok is the reason LA doesn’t have water?! Fuck off. This is NOT Native peoples fault you pieces of shit. WE ARE TRYING TO STOP THESE CATASTROPHES FROM HAPPENING!!!

Affirmative action for men.

A point that risks getting overlooked: Meta said it is ending fact-checking *in the US* — but ~90% of its users are outside the US. This widens the gap between how people experience social media in the US vs. elsewhere, as @viacristiano.bsky.social points out: www.washingtonpost.com/technology/2...

🧵

As someone who spent years reporting on Zuckerberg, I've struggled to find something coherent to say about today. Then @cwarzel.bsky.social reminded me of my old reporting. This is what a FB employee said to me in 2020 after Zuckerberg addressed workers following FB-enabled violence in Kenosha, WI.

one of my pet takes is that americans only know how to talk about *anything* through the lens of "the economy." this is as true on the right as on the left. so much of our politics is driven by *status* and status anxiety that people only know how to express through "economic" language

I mean, if a guy did this in front of me, I would marry him too. Congrats to Zendaya and Tom Holland for their engagement🙏

it is so important to remember that IN THE MOMENT there was no one who thought jan. 6 was some innocent protest gone awry. everyone recognized it for what it was.

I suppose if you’re only purchasing pre cooked & chopped ingredients in tiny amounts? Or putting saffron in your homemade burritos and then eating like a monk at chipotle? Lordamercy.
