New nightmare just dropped

Found a copy of Dan Brown’s 1998 “Digital Fortress” in a little free library. It was a simpler time.

Proud to see so many firms and lawyers I’ve worked with on here.

NEWS: More than 500 law firms sign on to an amicus brief in support of Perkins Coie amid the firm’s legal battle against Trump’s executive order targeting its business. Read the list of firms that signed the brief authored by former SG Don Verrilli: storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

fortunately I put all my money into existential dread futures

Would love to hear how America’s boardrooms are handling investigation into the more “sensitive” tariff-response options, such as bribery Oh to be a General Counsel today

I've quoted this passage from Trump -- where he states his intent to cause riots and US economic collapse -- so many times. He flat-out announced it on Fox News in February 2014. In my book HIDING IN PLAIN SIGHT I quote my own 2016 essay warning of his plan: www.hidinginplainsightbook.com

🚨Georgetown University Law Center students are detailing which law firms have caved and which have stood up to the Trump regime. They have created this spreadsheet: docs.google.com/spreadsheets... Please share widely.

Those trying to understand the tariffs as economic policy are dangerously naive. No, the tariffs are a tool to collapse our democracy. A means to compel loyalty from every business that will need to petition Trump for relief. 1/ A 🧵 to explain his plan and how we fight back.

We had to ask him to stop tbh

I ended yesterday listening to Sen. Booker filibustering and now am starting my day weeping and listening to him still going. (He has not yielded the floor, just taking a “question” right now.)

You know to me, claiming you literally cannot fix your mistakes seems like a pretty fucking clear case for insisting on due process beforehand but what do I know

Unlike Mahmoud Khalil, she wasn’t even a leader or heavily involved in the protest movement! She just attended some of them. So yeah, the US government is seeking to deport a person here on a green card since she was a child because she went to a protest. Joe McCarthy would be proud.

The whole point is not just the state disappearing whoever they want, it's you being in the habit of accepting the state choosing whom to disappear, without question. It's submission to the state. Same as with Gitmo after 9/11. The state's judgment must not be questioned.

Make no mistake, this executive order creates a system without firewalls, whereby all information collected by the state governments or unrelated federal agencies all become leverage for use against someone by punitive and violent government agencies. www.whitehouse.gov/presidential...

It will never be enough. The goal is to break the University, not have them meet demands. Taunting Columbia with the hope of compliance just sweetens the pot with humiliation.

Those who seek to dominate require their victims to resist (and have their resistance overcome) to complete the drama of their own power. So submission does not actually appease the autocrats: They will make greater and greater demands until they either extract resistance or destroy their target.

Scenes from #Ankara on day 4 of the #Turkey protests. Thousands have gone on the streets again today despite the ban on demonstrations and harsh crackdowns.

I can’t compete with this

Being on social media and hearing bad shit 24/7 nonstop has got to be messing with everyone’s heads but unfortunately the problem with that isn’t social media as much as the bad shit happening 24/7 nonstop

It is a tough challenge to explain how what has happened to Mr. Khalil is in some ways entirely unprecedented and in other ways a completely normal example of the inhumane ways that our immigration detention system operates.

This letter appeared in the Bloomsburg PA Press Enterprise this morning. I am assured the writer is who he purports to be, an Air Force veteran.

🚨 Everyone needs to call their Dem Senator right now. They are starting to cave. Tell them: 1. Vote NO on Cloture AND 2. Vote NO on the Republican spending bill. Don’t let them pivot to reconciliation. GOP doesn’t need Dem votes on that and they know it. TODAY is the showdown. 🤳🏽: (202) 224-3121

@murray.senate.gov @cantwell.senate.gov I am a constituent and a federal employee. I am asking you NOT to support the CR. There’s zero upside for you to do so.

My primary association with Ruth Marcus will always be this 2009 Autotune the News video I watched so, so many times during law school finals www.youtube.com/watch?v=tBb4...

Ukrainian journalist Victoria Roshchyna died after savage torture and extreme emaciation in russian captivity The 27-year-old journalist, who lived for her work, had travelled to occupied Zaporizhzhia in order to find out about russia’s torture prisons on occupied territory khpg.org/en/1608814479

Huh, I really didn’t have “receive political mailer nowhere near a major election” on my 2025 bingo card, but at least I now know about a bill to urge my legislators to support. cc: @finchfrii.bsky.social

Kinda worse than secession tbh. Its literally the "protect but not bind" thing where they want the benefits of being part of the United States but with none of the obligations

In my opinion cities that are under economic and political attack by White House coup leader and would be dictator Elon Musk should not spend their local tax dollars protecting Elon Musk’s assets.

It’s time to have a serious conversation about limiting car access around schools

I think my dog knows what pants mean I’m leaving the house

Powerful. @algreen.house.gov: "There are times when it is better to stand alone, than not stand at all. This president is disrupting the healthcare system. He is all but defying court orders. At some point, we're all going to have to stand up."

John Lewis wrote, "Freedom is not a state; it is an act. It is not some enchanted garden perched high on a distant plateau where we can finally sit down and rest. Freedom is the continuous action we all must take, and each generation must do its part to create an even more fair, more just society.”

Seeing this all coming doesn’t really make it any easier to process the swift, brazen, and lawless dismantling of the federal government with no apparent consequences or brakes

This is a serious immediate danger to abortion clinic workers and volunteer escorts. Anti-abortion activists spent decades conducting a campaign of terrorism, bombings and murder targeting doctors and abortion clinic workers. This is a green light from the administration

The ripple effect of fascism. Youngkin, a conservative quisling, is likely seeking out opportunities for performative Trumpism—watch for more grotesque pardons and commutations to come from other mini-Trumps, shredding rule of law & declaring white supremacy.

I would suggest: Wired, the Philadelphia Inquirer, Rollingstone.

And also to so miss the point that this attack on us is about constructing norms of sex and power that will affect everyone. The positioning of “trans issues” here ranks among the worst Times offenses and that is saying a lot.

“Why don't you wear a suit? You're at the highest level in this country's office & you refuse to wear a suit. A lot of Americans have problems with you not respecting the office.”
