Tackling the far-right will require everyone. It's right that the First Minister will bring unions, civic society & political institutions to together against hatred and division. We've defeated fascism before. We can do it again. To do so, politicians must play their role too.

It is frightening that someone would set up a ‘trans genocide’ email account and abuse a member of the LGBT community. Whipping up fear and hate has far-reaching consequences for LGBT and marginalised people. Making trans people less safe does not make women and girls safer. Enough is enough.

Massive thanks to @monicalennon.bsky.social and other @scottishlabour.bsky.social MSPs for joining us and Govan Law Centre at our fringe event on Child Poverty and the Public Debt Crisis at #ScotLab25 last weekend. A clear resolve for doing debt recovery differently to help end child poverty.

“We must not isolate. We must stay in community. We must help the vulnerable. We must find ways to project an inspiring vision of the future.” — @janefonda.com Congratulations on earning the 60th SAG Life Achievement Award, Jane. You never cease to amaze us.

One of the many positives about Scottish Labour conference was the opportunity to stand up for trans people. We have more work to do, in our party and in our communities, to protect and progress LGBT rights. #ScotLab25 @dhothersall.bsky.social @slabcampaign.bsky.social

I am proud to serve as a Scottish Labour and Cooperative Councillor. As a member of the Scottish Coop Party I am proud to champion the values of the Cooperative movement—unity, fairness, and solidarity. Together, we can build a better future for all! #ScotLab25

Education rightly featured heavily at Scottish Labour conference. Standing up for quality education is crucial. By listening to teachers, school workers, pupils and families, we are developing policies and plans to boost learning and skills in Scotland. #ScotLab25

One year ago today, the public consultation closed on my proposed tough new law against ecocide. Thousands of people responded, with more than 95% backing ecocide law. I’m excited that work on the draft Bill is progressing well. Get in touch if you want to be part of the campaign.

NEW: 38 Labour MPs have signed a letter to David Lammy, slamming US President Donald Trump’s plans to takeover Gaza as “ethnic cleansing” and urging the Foreign Secretary to make the government’s opposition clear. labourlist.org/2025/02/labo...

The most effective way to fight rising far-right is for those in Govt to deliver on wealth redistribution and invest in local communities which have been destroyed by years of austerity.

At The Gathering this year? I’ll be speaking on a panel on anti-racism and the third sector. With increasingly normalisation of far right politics the third sector needs to loudly stand against fascism + racism. But it is not happening enough. BREAKING 🚨: WE WON OUR CASE AGAINST ROSEBANK. The court has ruled the oil field UNLAWFUL and Rosebank’s approval has been overturned. This is a monumental victory in the fight for a liveable future for all.

Great to see @monicalennon.bsky.social hosting such an important exhibition in Scottish Parliament. Thanks @eisunion.bsky.social for chatting about education cuts & the ongoing erosion of Instrumental Music Services in Scotland. We need to stand up for quality education. 📚

Happy birthday to the late Ewan MacColl, born #OTD in 1915 in Broughton. His iconic song 'Dirty Old Town,' inspired by Salford's lost slums and chimneys, embodies a fight against inequality and a vision for a fairer society serving everyone—a message as relevant today as ever.

Good to see more scrutiny of the harm Reform UK would do to public services if they got anywhere near power. Even a small group of Farage MSPs in the Scottish Parliament next year could be fatal for the NHS.

Scotland for sale – The question of land reform. Landownership is dominated by a tiny number of people and corporations. Scotland is a global anomaly in its unjustifiably concentrated landownership. Only 433 landowners own 50% of the private rural land. www.heraldscotland.com/news/2486609...

Prime Minister Nigel Farage is no longer a far-fetched fantasy but a real nightmare that our political leaders are sleepwalking towards. Read more in my guest column in today’s Sunday Mail. 🗞️

2025 is the year disposable vapes will finally be banned in the UK. Can’t come soon enough. Vapes littered across the nation will someday soon hopefully be a thing of the past.
