The French Impressionist painter Gustave Caillebotte exhibit at The Getty Center is well worth seeing. On view until May 25, 25. www.getty.edu/exhibitions/...

Cinematographer Owen Roizman is not well known but he had an impressive career. Some films he shot: The French Connection (71), The Exorcist [73] The Taking of Pelham 123 (74), Three Days of the Condor (75), Network [76], Straight Time [78] and Tootsie [82] en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Owen_Ro...

It’s a Stooges, Fun House kind of afternoon.

Raining, finally, in Los Angeles!

I’m a little late to this one but ‘The Monk and the Gun’ is a terrific satire/ comedy/ drama from Bhutan about the fragile nature of Democracy. It has a lot to say but chooses to give us a fable rather than an outright political screed and is quite effective. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Mon...

David Lynch is one of the few filmmakers in the history of the medium whose name can be used as an adjective to describe a particular trait of a movie. E.g. "The movie is Lynchian". It's sad we will not get any more movies from this master filmmaker. But he left us a lot to explore. RIP

The Getty Villa and Center built a fire resistant fortress. Let’s hope it survives the current fires. www.realtor.com/news/trends/...

A good article that shows and explains the different aircraft fighting the fires around Los Angeles. www.reuters.com/graphics/CAL...

Jimmy Carter had the best post-Presidency of any President in American history. His humanitarian work around the world for over 40 years made him a man to be admired. Rosalynn Carter was right there with him for all of those years. As a team they were the best of America. RIP.

“Television watching should more properly be called television starring; it engages eye and ear simultaneously in a relentless and persistent way and leaves no room for daydreaming.” - Witold Rybczynski ‘Waiting for the Weekend’

One of the underappreciated American independent film classics is 'Return of the Secaucus Seven' [1980] directed and written by John Sayles. It holds up after all these years and it has got that cool, grainy, indie look you got from films of that era not to mention a great cast.

Doctor Strange, 180, May 1969. Trippy cover art by Gene Colan and Steve Ditko. #comicbook

Old rare film book. “Claude Chabrol” - by Robin Wood and Michael Walker, edited by Ian Cameron, Praeger Film Library, 1970.

I'm sure it's a coincidence but part of Pet Shop Boys song 'It's a Sin' [1987] has a section that sounds a little like Cat Stevens song 'Wild World' [1970]. At least I hear it....

Readers in a study unable to differentiate between AI poetry and poetry written by real poets. Some prefer the easily readable AI poems. Are we doomed? What doth Shakespeare say? www.smithsonianmag.com/smart-news/c...

Red Desert by Michelangelo Antonioni is a film I have watched every decade since 1990 and each time it’s an enriching experience. I see something new [or something I forgot] in each viewing. It may be the apotheosis of a career full of masterpieces.

‘Bizzarie di varie figure’ is a book by Giovanni Battista Bracelli of 50 amazing etchings done in 1624. Four hundred years ago but remarkably modern. bit.ly/3ydNgQo
