Escaped the pounding of the roofers & the dearth of potential employer callbacks for an out of the way watery tavern with tinny speakers. Barn swallows flash through the docks, sparrows pick at the tables, and for now, refuge is not a place but a moment.

The roofer's percussions have knocked an artifact of my old life off the shelf, shattering it. I often share the parable of the monk who only gains admission to the abbey once he mends the begging bowl he so carefully made. It's possible these shards mean more than the bowl it once was did.

This was the 1st day in a wk that the lungs lifted the pall of respiratory infection and I could get out and walk. Heaving fresh air into my chest was holy AF. That & watching a heron pace the shores of Lake Ontario. Not looking for fish. Seemed to be enjoying it. Makes 2 or infinitely more of us.
