Attended a "Building Complete Communities" talk hosted by @chrismoise.ca which was well attended. Excellent presentations by @jasonthorne.bsky.social, Michael McLelland of ERA Architects, Amanda O'Rourke of @880cities.bsky.social & @ericlombardi.bsky.social of @moreneighboursto.bsky.social. #TOpoli

And here in Toronto, we're letting our city block fourplexes they said were legal as-of-right citywide. www.thestar.com/real-estate/... Let's join the cities upzoning and enjoying lower rents and prices, shall we? Austin Houston Seattle Portland Minneapolis Montreal Etc.

"In 2020, [Portland, OR] approved building [middle housing] on lots zoned for single family homes... A new report from the City says, it's working. 1,400 new units built in just a few years and each one is $300,000 less expensive than a typical single family home." @nbcnews.com

"In a dire housing shortage, when young families are moving away from the city and the province in droves due to a lack of available places to live — surely it’s not too much to ask that we simply allow (missing middle housing) to be built by property owners who want to build them."

Join us at "Building Complete Communities" with Cllr. @chrismoise.ca TOMORROW Tuesday the 6th, 6-8pm: Looking forward to collaborating on city plans that are beautiful, welcoming, and full of promise for all with: @jasonthorne.bsky.social @880cities.bsky.social ERA Architects t.co/LNAV9KLBg1

“The city needs to know that we as citizens really care about this issue... We want it on the front burner, and we’re hoping for some sort of results that really benefit neighbourhoods and shapes the city we want to see.” - @anotherglassbox.bsky.social www.torontotoday.ca/local/policy...

Thanks to everyone who joined us this past weekend for our Jane's Walks to learn about zoning, missing middle, neighbourhood retail, and more.

"Local luxury home developers and NIMBY neighbours banded together to oppose the project. Cynically spineless local and provincial politicians joined them. Together they used the SNAFU of regulatory and appeals processes to keep pushing construction..." Yup www.thestar.com/opinion/star...

"Building Complete Communities" with Councillor Chris Moise next Tuesday the 6th, 6-8pm Some exciting panelists! I hope we can clarify ways to get the most out of community input, while ensuring we actually address the housing crisis. @moreneighboursto.bsky.social t.co/LNAV9KLBg1

The City says it wants more non-market housing, but its own rules make non-profit development smaller and more expensive. In our blog by Hongyu Xiao, we argue that to build non-market housing at scale, we have to find more ways to say "yes" to more homes. www.moreneighbours.ca/news/mnto-gi...

Voting day today! We strongly encourage you to consider housing policy as a priority for your choice, but regardless, get out there and exercise your democratic rights! Polls close at 9:30pm youtube.com/shorts/2HGS_...

We’re gonna talk a bunch about stuff we all like that’s hard to do (today) and what we can all do about it. I can’t wait to tell people about the missing middle.

What is everyone up to next weekend? If you are free, More Neighbours Toronto is leading two Jane's Walks to talk about housing and urbanism in two Toronto neighbourhoods.

As always, Uytae is a gem, making approachable videos that help explain some of the causes of the housing crisis. Highly recommend to watch if you haven’t yet! Let’s talk a bit more about development costs, Vancouver in particular. Because we do some things right, and other things horribly wrong.

Since 2010, Toronto development charges have increased 1000%. A 2-bedroom condo owes $80,690 in DCs alone, with more for parkland and community benefits. Where is this money going? Well, $3 billion is sitting in the reserves, but About Here breaks down the rest. www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZEUR...

The Rexdale affordable housing project passed council today without debate. Not even a token no vote from Holyday. Congratulations to all who supported.

Director @StephBertolo featured on CTV: “I think what Toronto needs is, and all of Canada, is a coordinated effort on behalf of all governments to get more housing built. At a federal level, that means making it a national priority.” www.ctvnews.ca/toronto/arti...

@seanny123.bsky.social breaks down our platform analysis for the Conservatives, Liberals, and NDP in 45 seconds! Read more here: www.moreneighbours.ca/news/analysi... youtube.com/shorts/m5mXe...

Condo sales are down but some are being converted to rental. Why? Mentioned in the article: interest rates, a city rental incentive program. Not mentioned: rental HST removed by feds and province, reduced DCs for 2- and 3-bedroom rentals by province. Policy matters! www.thestar.com/real-estate/...

So this is what I've been doing this election

Voting with housing in mind this election? We've made a handy guide on what the parties plan to do to build more homes. Full details and methodology at morehomescanada.ca/election2025. #cdnpoli

Advanced voting starts today. More Neighbours Toronto has analyzed the parties' housing platforms, such as they are, across six categories. We also gave an overall evaluation that accounts for the feasibility, practicality, and coherence of the platform: www.moreneighbours.ca/news/analysi...

When you don’t build enough housing, many people can’t move out of their parents’ place. Others are stuck living with roommates or even relationships they don’t want. Remember this every time someone says “we don’t need any more housing” or “what about shadows?”.

Hi, we're More Homes Canada, an umbrella group for housing orgs across the country. We want to build more homes because everyone deserves a safe, affordable place to live.

Bonjour! Nous sommes More Homes Canada, une coalition de groupes pro-logement dans le pays. Nous voulons construire plus de logements parce que tout le monde mérite un toit sur la tête, à un prix abordable.

Single detached zoning is a subsidy to homeowners "that's ultimately paid by renters by making housing in the area less affordable. And, given that the average homeowner has 40x the net worth of the average renter, it means that this is ultimately a subsidy to the rich from the poor."
