Physics teacher (AP1&2, NGSS, Bilingual) who is hoping to change our education system to be less focused on grades on more on growth. I love Jeopardy, Board Games, and PB M&Ms.

This would make a great T shirt to sell at Halloween.

New entry to the list of "do not attempt to draw in front of teenagers": single slit diffraction graph. #iteachphysics

Another interesting Spanish Physics translation. Instead of the word Voltage, they say "Tensión." That's a neat analogy to a physical force. #iteachphysics

Jim Gaffigan during the #Grammys "I don't know how to say this, but during the break, Trevor Noah was traded to the Dallas Mavericks." I think every NBA fan laughed out loud at that.

I tried to listen to every Grammy nominee this year. I made it through half! Here are my favorites in each category. These are my opinions, not predictions, but I really hope that Beyoncé and Billie Eilish win more awards than Sabrina Carpenter and Charli XCX.

I've been thinking about this scripture a lot recently.

The Utah House just passed a bill that bans public unions from bargaining for their members. We now have to meet individually with our leaders. So, when it comes time to negotiate pay increases, I hope superintendents clear their schedules to meet with 500 teachers. www.kuer.org/politics-gov...

I enjoy letting my students request songs for our class Spotify playlist. Last week one of my boys thought it'd be funny to choose a march from Nazi germany. I hate that we have celebrities teaching our kids that they can do and say hateful things as long as they wink and say they were kidding.

Are any of my friends here fans of #Jeopardy? It's been an exciting month of tournaments! Who do you think will win the Tournament of Champions?

You've heard of tangent and arctangent but have you heard of #math

I don't care that your app has a new name. I don't care that its logo is now worse. I don't care that it is being revolutionized by AI. I don't care that someone new is getting rich off my data. I just want it to do the thing I downloaded it to do. Thank you.

I remain convinced that we’ve “solved” teaching and learning, broadly construed, but continue to exist in crisis because people don’t like the fact that the solution is labor intensive and therefore expensive.

Excited to share that I have been awarded the 2023 Presidential Award for Excellence in Math and Science Teaching! This was a long and rigorous process that was also immensely gratifying! Thank you to @secaurphysics.bsky.social for nominating and all the support!

They finally announced the PAEMST winners from the last 3 years! It's incredible to know that my name will always be on the list with some of the best Science teachers from Utah, including my mentor Duane Merrell. Best of luck to anyone who is applying this month! www.whitehouse.gov/ostp/news-up...

I finally built @joemilliano.bsky.social's swingy thingies, and we got solid data for centripetal acceleration! Well worth the time and money to make. #edusky #iteachphysics

Merry Christmas to #iteachphysics and #edusky! I have been active on twitter for my whole teaching career, and it was a great way to connect with other teachers. I can’t count the ways they have helped me, so I want all of my followers here know who they are and how grateful I am for them! 🧵

When teachers complain about not having enough planning time, most are not complaining about having to plan. They are complaining about not having time because they have too many classes, students, bosses, parents, duties, meetings, and paperwork. This solves the wrong problem.

It's a small detail, but I learned from my Spanish-speaking students that in math they say "divided among" instead of "divided by" and that might be a clearer way of explaining what division is. #EduSky

Dunbar's number says that we can't maintain more than 150 relationships, yet many secondary teachers have more students than that in one year. Any ideas besides limiting class size (<25)? There's looping (same teacher for 2 years), or one teacher covering math & sci or English & history. #EduSky

Quizzed my students on "Oldies" using the All Out playlists from Spotify. Here's how they did from Best to worst: 80s 60s 70s 90s 50s

#Edusky already seems better than edutwitter in that it's not dominated by people obsessed with arguing that direct instruction is better than inquiry. Those guys sure loved bragging about how smart they were.

People are often surprised when they hear there are thousands of new board games a year. This diagram is a great overview of the different categories, and within each there are 100s of variations. Check out the full video explanation here: youtu.be/fH4MaSJ8gXU?...

I was talking to my students about the history of pop punk, and one of them thought "Fall For You" was by blink-182. Not sure whether to be insulted or impressed.
