MEDICAID Basics Over 50% of the spending for Medicaid goes to cover those with DISABILITIES and the AGED 38% of those on Medicaid are CHILDREN. /1

Odd having to self promote as the world burns…AND my research IS advocacy. Here is a new piece entitled “If you’re asking for my diversity, you’re asking for all of me”: Challenging experiences of neurodivergent higher education faculty in the United States. psycnet.apa.org/record/2025-...

For those who want to know more about what happens when a large percentage of a state's adult population loses #Medicaid enrollment all of a sudden, go read about #TennCare disenrollment: #HealthPolicy scholar.google.com/scholar?hl=e...

"A study of federally funded research projects in the United States estimated that principal investigators spend on average about 45% of their time on administrative activities related to applying for and managing projects rather than conducting active research" www.pnas.org/doi/10.1073/...

Look what my wife made me 🥰

SCOTUS’s 1999 Olmstead v. L.C. decision found that "unnecessary institutional segregation" of people with disabilities violates the ADA. Here's my essay w/ Michael Stein and Lisa Iezzoni at Harvard Law Review Blog on what the last term meant for the Olmstead integration mandate: shorturl.at/1uVro.

It is misguided to denigrate ideology in “science” or research. In social science research, almost always we are guided by values. Values (self, societal) often guide variable selection & research questions (eg professional treatment guidelines).

This connects to my concern over valuing “impact.” I value impact, too — yes. But unfortunately there are now incentives to get broad attention & to contribute to polarized discourse in a way that is provocative We need scholars & thinkers to be motivated by the pursuit of knowledge, not fame

Your purpose on earth is not to argue with people who intentionally want to misunderstand you

I’m concerned about the role of social media in creating an incentive for grifters to leverage a veneer of legitimacy We see it all over, including the mental health services space Very defensive clinicians strategically diminishing survivors. I hope someone is researching this dynamic

Come train with us under our T32 health services research program! Fellowships are two years along and may be for PhD post-docs or clinical residents doing two years of research. Applications due Dec 31st. Details here: medicine.umich.edu/dept/chop/tr... #SurgSky #MedSky #healthpolicy

Thank you, St. John’s, for organizing a beautiful prayer vigil for Trans Day of Remembrance. We remember all trans people who died and were murdered this year. I send love to all people who experience rejection and violence on the basis of how they present in the world. #tdor #lgbtq

Sending out a prayer to all trans people who lost their lives. I’m upset that trans people have been both politically weaponized & scapegoated. Praying that all trans people have loving community in their lives.

really gotta get bookmarks on here so i can scrupulously compile a large collection of shit i will never look at again

TW: death, transphobia Thinking of all the trans people let down by mental health services this Trans Day of Remembrance. Suicide and homicide rates are devastatingly high for #trans people, especially autistic trans folk. Mental health services have contributed by pathologising, not affirming🏳️‍⚧️.

My response to anyone asking me to give a scholarly opinion on anything outside my dime-thin area of expertise.

Dr.Oz and RFK are going to force a lot of people to spend a lot of time defending an existing healthcare infrastructure that we all know is broken. But pulling the rug out from people who rely on Medicare and Medicaid is not the answer. The answer is improved Medicare for all. #M4A

We don’t have to trade our lives for efficiency. What is the point in being efficient if it makes us hate the experience of living?

Wish we had a bookmark feature on Bluesky. Do we have it and I just don’t see it?

I am trying my best to add all the social work academics from twitter into this list so we have a curated feed. Please let me know if you’d like to be added! And also don’t forget to pin the list to your feed! bsky.app/profile/did:...
