NY Governor Hochul's phone lines are finally open after days of being unreachable. Only had to wait 10 minutes to tell her to: 1. Continue defending NYC's congestion pricing from Trump's attack 2. Remove Eric Adams from office since he's in Trump's pocket Call her at 518-474-8390

In many ways it's fitting that the showdown between monarchy and democracy ends up being over NYC congestion pricing. Cities are where the power of kings were first challenged, and few things are more fundamental to government than control of public space. The cameras are staying on!

because state's rights only apply to enabling bad things, not enabling good things! gothamist.com/news/trump-m...

When the dismantlists talk about "trimming the fat" or "bloated" whatever relating to the federal government, remind them that there have been about the same number of federal employees since the 1960s. Meanwhile US population has increased by ~70% and GDP has increased 29-fold.

I feel like I'm going insane every time I see a media story about DOGE that doesn't also mention the fact that the Government Accountability Office exists and performs the exact function that DOGE pretends to, only in a credibly constitutional, non-partisan, and conflict-of-interest-free manner

“The thing that I can’t get over is that the actual richest man in the world directed my fucking firing. I make $50k a year and work to keep drinking water safe. The richest man in the world decided that was an expense too great for the American taxpayer.”

it's dramatically appropriate that mcconnell is forced to live in a hell he himself created, but I wish I wasn't also forced to live in it

Eric Adams has sold out new yorkers to Trump's administration, in exchange for the DOJ dropping the corruption charges against him. Governor Hochul has the power to remove him from office, but she's stalling. Call her and demand that she remove him, esp if you live in New York: 518-474-8390.

one small piece of schadenfreude i'm glad for is that mitch mcconnell has enough of a conscience to be clearly miserable because of the collapse of his life's work, and he will die before he knows whether he destroyed america

Can't believe the amount of heat we used to get for downloading an mp3 when every tech company is downloading the sum total of human expression to sell a scromited version back to us

Seems bad!

➡️ January 20: FAA director fired ➡️ January 21: Air Traffic Controller hiring frozen ➡️ January 22: Aviation Safety Advisory Committee disbanded ➡️ January 28: Buyout/retirement demand sent to existing employees ➡️ January 29: First American mid-air collision in 16 years Making America Great Again!

nyc.streetsblog.org/2025/01/27/c... 51% decrease in fatalities, 55% decrease in crashes, and $4 million raised every day to improve public transit. #CongestionPricing

No better quote from Merrick Garland summarizes why he was the wrong man for the job than this from his farewell speech. From start to finish, he brought norms to a Trump fight and democracy suffered.

I love getting the rare call from the police after I file a 311 "Is <vehicle> still <doing illegal thing>?" Officer, I filed that report hours ago, in what world am I standing around waiting for you to show up?

this is incredible stuff. most state DOTs would spend tens of billions on highway expansions to try and see numbers like this (that wouldn’t even pan out anyway thanks to induced demand lol)

this guy went on the Joe Rogan podcast to accuse other companies of insufficient innovation

On 11/8/2024 I filed a reportedly.weebly.com complaint for this ride share driver parking in the bike lane. Today I get a Notice of Hearing scheduled for 3/27/2026. 2026! Completely bonkers TLC backlog

“I see a difference, definitely,” said Tony, who has spent 18 years as a bus operator for the MTA. “There have been no delays the entire week, and when I look to my left and right down the avenues I can see all the way down – I’ve never seen it like that.” nyc.streetsblog.org/2025/01/10/m...

Overdue and under-charged, but still stoked that this is going live at midnight tonight!

In housing policy, Affordable Housing is a technical term for subsidized, income-restricted housing that’s rented at below market rates. We are not going to Affordable Housing our way to broad housing affordability. We need to build more market rate homes to lower the market price of housing.

merry 10 days until congestion pricing begins for all who celebrate

Eliminating arbitrary mandates and letting consumers decide how much parking they want to pay for is one of the easiest thing local policymakers can do to bring down housing costs.

[any policy issue] okay but you understand. this is about the price of housing

The Silo doesn’t seem too bad. Dense, mixed use, walkable. Everyone is in excellent cardiovascular shape due to the stairs.

I’m not militant about much, but it’s called the “quiet car” for a reason.
