Just extended the deadline to March 21 for this position in the Plant Phylogenomics group at the University of Vienna. It is sort of a "post doc plus" position funded for up to six years. Please reach out if you want to chat - I'd love to talk to you about it! jobs.univie.ac.at/job/Universi...

Quote post with a picture you took in a National Park. Team of grad and undergrad researchers collecting plants at Guadalupe Mountains National Park, to study changes in plant genetics and ecophysiology over the 50 years since the Park opened. May 2024. (see also my profile picture)

Had the opportunity to chat with In Defense of Plants about my favorite plant, Galax urceolata. We dive into its ecology, genome evolution, and the fascinating world of polyploidy. Check out this week’s episode:

This post now has the most engagement of anything I’ve posted on BlueSky before. Guess I’ll be known as the Grant Font Guy now?

The "database" being just an excel file named "Public Database_Release (1) (1).xlsx" is just objectively funny.

shout out to the bro-y guy in the back of my class who got a multiple choice clicker question right, did a fist pump and yelled out “YEAH! Let’s GOOOO” and high fived his friends needed that energy this morning!

Hey can someone run down to the EEO office and grab me one of them “we investigated ourselves and found we did nothing wrong” forms? I’ve got an idea…

Submitting a proposal to NSF this week out of spite more than anything else at this point.

🚨 BREAKING: OMB has just issued a memo *rescinding* the previous memo freezing all federal financial assistance programs. Full text, per government source:

In times like these, individuals think ahead about what a more repressive government will want, and then offer themselves without being asked. A citizen who adapts in this way is teaching power what it can do. - @timothysnyder.bsky.social

Breaking news: The White House budget office is ordering a pause to all grants and loans disbursed by the federal government, according to an internal memo sent to agencies Monday, creating significant confusion across Washington.

Do not comply in advance.

OK it actually seems pretty isolated, re NSF panel cancellation. Currently, only four panels in the next few months are listed as cancelled. new.nsf.gov/events/propo...

I’m an NSF panel reviewer that was scheduled to meet today. Just got notice that all NSF panels were canceled today. I reviewed some innovative proposals in support of students. Devastating if these scholars don’t get to do this work. For the love of science & students I hope this is just a delay.💔

Science isn’t always linear. More often than not, new discoveries make us re-evaluate what we once thought we knew for certain. The Twitter/X-famous #BlueSoup saga is a great example of this! Learn more here: youtu.be/6g-gNJcGsLY featuring @bielleogy.bsky.social @atinygreencell.bsky.social
