We continue to see legislative efforts to mandate that blood banks/hospitals allow patients to use directed or autologous blood donations without medical indication. These are driven by vaccine-related fears which lack any scientific grounding. This is problematic for multiple reasons… 1/

Science, research funding & DEI efforts face new challenges, but ASH remains committed to promoting the highest quality care & a strong #hematology workforce. Learn how you can advocate & make a difference in the President’s Column by @b-avalos-md.bsky.social 🔗 https://bit.ly/41vo1oR #HemeSky

This is a strikingly beautiful and shattering read. “I’ve learned to let the beauty of the world and the bravery of other people pull me up and out of the despair.”

I am so damn busy doing the work (& encouraging others to do so, too) … PHEW. Do NOT give up your agency or your hope, my friends. Thanks to all for being in this together. Here’s to the long game. 🙏❤️

A *2011* grant from NSERC Research Tools and Instruments, for 60000 CAD, to Geoff Hinton (@geoffreyhinton.bsky.social) For "Large scale machine learning using GPUs" Everything you're seeing now started from a pittance of cash given by the Canadian government for fundamental research

The entire archive of CDC datasets can be found here. HUGE shoutout to data archivists- this work is important 👏🙌🏻 archive.org/details/2025...

U.S. physician colleagues - did you know that Ontario, Canada has 3 expedited pathways to practice in our province? All specialties have needs. We *really* need great family docs! www.cpso.on.ca/Physicians/R...

Rudolph Virchow. Abide by his Triad and by his words. “Medicine is a social science, and politics is nothing more than medicine on a grand scale.” #HemeSky

In my house MAHA still stands for microangiopathic hemolytic anemia

Talking about lab stewardship for rural physicians with my family medicine bestie, Dr Kate Miller, on Jan 23. Register now! srpcportal.ca/events/

Ontario docs - don’t forget to vote in the OMA elections! Great slate of candidates, including my longtime colleague Dr Khalid Azzam from Hamilton, who is an extraordinarily experienced, kind, and thoughtful leader. @ontariosdoctors.bsky.social

Excited to speak at the Chicago Highlights of ASH about the intersection btw women’s health and hematology! TY for the opportunity, @ash.hematology.org

So much great sickle cell content at #ASH24! (Including the Ham-Wasserman lecture this year!) Well deserved focus on a too often marginalized condition and patient population.

Dinner and then a good sleep to prepare for a busy day at #ASH24 tomorrow! 9:30 am in SDCC Rm 25, kicking off @ash-hematology.bsky.social guidelines sessions with peds VTE update.

Really looking forward to escaping the snow for #ASH24 and San Diego sun!

LITERALLY RELIEVED. Also, love @altmetric.com showing up with personality on this thread 🤣

Manifesting: This is the year I'm actually going to look at all the photos I take of slides at #ASH24.

Compelling. I see this as more than just a political stance (not to minimize the importance of those); pregnant people have the right to participate fully in scientific conferences. How can they feel safe doing so if that means travelling to places that would legally deny them life saving care?

We *tried* to do a meta-analysis on menstrual bleeding in FXI inhibitor studies - not only is it not an outcome, but hardly any participants were capable of menstruation. We call for action to improve capture of HMB in anticoagulant trials in our latest @jthjournal.bsky.social pub. t.co/c26Y0umzOi

Billions of people suffer from #anemia, but there are cheap ways to address the problem. In some countries, most children and pregnant women are anemic. There are low-cost ways to tackle this. ourworldindata.org/billions-peo... via @ourworldindata.org #GlobalHealth

Practical article on acquired hemophilia! Need to be aware of it, even if not a hematologist, as abrupt onset of bleeding can rapidly become life threatening. No specialized lab support or pfVIII access? rfVIIa can work! A GOOD reason to page heme in the middle of the night. #hemesky #emedsky

BlueSky feels like Twitter's more mature, responsible but slightly nerdy older brother.

So much to learn at #ASH24. Most excited for the Quality sessions and Classical Heme (aka Benign, aka Systems, aka Non-Malignant Heme) sessions. See you soon, San Diego!

@profmakris.bsky.social, just saw your share from BJH, of cardiac iron accumulation with IV iron (unrelated to ferritin). IV iron is an important tool in our armamentarium. #HemeSky, #CardioSky - anyone studying cardiac outcomes of repeated FCM infusion? onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/epdf/10....

Dr. Sarah Giles is a bright ⭐ in 🇨🇦 medicine - the doc that other rural docs tell me they look up to. Please read her candid article about burnout, self-preservation, and who should bear the responsibility for keeping our healthcare system afloat. (Hint: not frontline HCPs) www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

Great to see RPTH joining @jthjournal.bsky.social on Bluesky! (And hopeful that other impactful journals in hematology will join #HemeSky as well... mostly because I'd prefer to just hang out here to do all my reading 😆)

A fave follow: @helenbevan.bsky.social. Loved today's post about boundary setting. This is the biggest change I've made in the last 2 yrs - setting healthy limits at work. Has actually given me MORE energy & bandwidth to meaningfully engage w learners, colleagues, family, friends, and my own needs!

It's lovely here! If you followed me on Twitter: Looking forward to continuing the conversation. If we haven't met yet: I post a lot about hematology, lab med, healthcare, and equity. I post a little about being a mom and a woman in medicine. And I try to amplify brilliant things and people. 🦋
