Pro move for wage workers. Only keep an emergency $50K in your 401k (for the loan option). Roll the rest into your IRA. It's just better for keeping the account bloat/clutter down. More low-cost investment options. Keep your life simple.

My general threory on times like this, when fear starts to descend on the markets, is that you can't time the market. But you can time your spending to a higher degree. These are good times to cut back because there might be some pretty good deals in the near future.
