Lovely trifle, mum.

This exactly. Most takes I've seen have focused on the "18yo in charge of £millions and public services", (certainly a worry) but the worst thing for me is that an 18yo has such bitter and jaded political views.

Once again, it must be said as loudly as possible: AI can't do the things described in this paragraph, and there is no pathway to it ever being able to do them.

Dear Great British Rail, can you re-privatise South Western? I preferred it when it was just mildly shit.

What's a poster you had up in your room growing up?

The violin was stolen from a player in the Philharmonia. Police have now released images of the suspect. news.sky.com/story/violin...

we're living through one of the greatest technological revolutions in the history of mankind and it's not AI

It occurred to me the other day that my use of the web has gone full circle to the late 90s. Unless I'm using a URL or bookmark to go to a specific site, I'll be searching on a trusted specialist site... Wikipedia, Reddit etc. Full web search seems mostly pointless now.

As people are once again realising that Spotify is an awful company, thought I'd do a short thread of the things I use instead of it. (As with Substack, I'm not judging you if you use it -- the world is *a lot* -- and no choices are perfectly ethical. But it's *better* if you don't).

A man on this train has just described a famous pop star (a very talented one) as "an icon". Please advise on my next move.

Went for a sticky woodland walk. Saw several White Admirals.

Watching Jobe Bellingham's first start for Dortmund (vs Mamelodi Sundowns). Just a ridiculous talent. Strange sense of deja vu...

Peak Heatwave Day, and it's overcast and lightly drizzling here. Might put a jumper on, just in case.

OTD in early British television On Monday 21 June 1937, at 3.03pm for just 15 minutes, and then again at 3.42pm for a further 10 minutes, the Television service broadcast a live OB from the Wimbledon Championships for the very first time. www.illuminationsmedia.co.uk/otd-in-early...

Ahh, that selection. Total Proust Madeleine stuff for me. Red Arrows were always good for local reasons, but I was always braced for the inevitable "oh, have a mini milk, that'll be nice" (subtext: CHEAPER)

Of course, in a classic case of "don't do as I do", I just spent over 2 hours cycling round the Surrey countryside in the sticky midday heat, but I do like hot weather, and am a fool.

Going to be a scorcher, I reckon. #PrecisionWeatherForecasting

Loads of good stuff here.

And quite apart from anything, how did it take them this long in the first place to put her name forward?

First batch of pesto from home-grown basil. Enough for this evening and a two-meal portion in the freezer. Only had to take the very largest leaves and the top clusters from each plant (to make them bush outwards a bit). Isn't summer brilliant?

This is the thing people on the center left need to understand. Look at the grooming gangs stuff. The instant Starmer agreed with them, the problem became that he hadn't agreed *quickly enough*. The point is to be angry, all the time.

The Vance joining bluesky thing is a deliberate attempt to stoke tension once again & create content for a flailing disaster for American politics. His posts are deliberately “playing nice” so then lots of viral content can be created when people react angrily. Don’t get played. Just don’t engage

Aaaand [taps block button] that's the last I'll be seeing of JD Vance on here.

This is a vital message: one of the larger reasons BlueSky is refreshingly free of alt-right shitlords is because in the early days we made a gentleperson’s agreement to starve these fuckos out and it worked. No likes, no quotes, no engagement. They got bored and left. Please keep the Old Ways.

If you have outside space, please provide water for wildlife (of different sizes). Loads of good dry weather advice here:

This is who runs this account

Lmao. I can usually tell you after listening to a real country song (not some fake Nashville shit) what state the artist is from based on which migrant group influenced the sound.

I know this is just part and parcel of running the pub I do, which is a pub I love but barring someone for being homophobic has led to a campaign against me being the manager by people who think they own the pub because they drink cheap lager in it, which is surprisingly effective in a local area
