Recently rekindled my passion for C18th literary criticism. Have picked up some fab 2nd hand books cheap online. Mainly ex-college / uni library. This arrived today, with a massive wave of nostalgia half glimpsed inside. #KAC @lsternetrust.bsky.social @uniwinchester.bsky.social

I'm trying to avoid getting drawn into the primary texts, because I've got writing to do and #C18th novels aren't served well by occasional light reading. But still, the joy of revisiting subjects I enjoyed in my undergrad & postgrad studies is palpable. #LitCrit #Defoe #Fielding #Smollett #Sterne

A truly unexpected side effect of reading several of Christopher #Tolkien 's History of #MiddleEarth volumes last year has been a rekindling of my passion for #C18th #LitCrit. I've been reading essays on #Sterne & #Defoe, and revelling in it all. I've got more lined up on #Smollett & #Fielding.

My #UNIT novel, The Vaughn Identity, is now available on general release and can be purchased from retailers such as, for example, Amazon. @shaunrussell.bsky.social #DoctorWho #DoctorWho amzn.eu/d/1vlH4Ru

Now up to #TheAvengers S1E15: The Frighteners. For many years the only S1 episode known to exist. Great cast, as always. Amused to find it includes the Mr Bumble from both the BBC adaptations of #OliverTwist that I watched last year. Willoughby Goddard (1962) and Godfrey James (1985).

#TheAvengers S1E01: Hot Snow. Interesting to see the very beginning of the series, but watching it reminds me of the sense of hopelessness you'd get at the end of #DoctorWho #TheWebOfFear ep1, knowing that was all there was (until most of the rest of the story turned up in 2013, anyway).

#TheAvengers S1E01: Hot Snow. Only the first 15 mins exist, up to the commercial break, and before Steed arrives. Ends on a real dramatic moment, too. Great to see Godfrey Quigley in something other than #Daleks: Invasion Earth 2150AD, but boy, I would love to see more!

#TheAvengers Tunnel of Fear definitely made me want to check out more of the 'Lost' range from @bigfinish.bsky.social. Kudos to @johndorney.bsky.social, @kenbentley.bsky.social and all others involved 🙂

Really enjoyed #TheAvengers Tunnel of Fear remake by @bigfinish.bsky.social. Had similar enjoyment listening to some of the #LostHancocks on @bbcsounds.bsky.social & comparing them to the recovered original audio!

Finished #TheAvengers Tunnel of Fear. Very enjoyable. Patrick Macnee had a ball! Loved Ian Hendry, also. Great interview with @johndorney.bsky.social about the challenges of adapting works with almost no reference material at all. Looking forward to checking out the @bigfinish.bsky.social version.

#TheAvengers early impression, based on watching part one: I like this. It's fun seeing Patrick Macnee & dog as light relief from the brooding Ian Hendry. I'm hoping Ingrid Hafner gets the chance to be a tad more... proactive, though. Might check out the @bigfinish.bsky.social adaptation after.

First up #TheAvengers S1E20: Tunnel of Fear. Presumed missing until a film print turned up a few years back. Yes, I know it's not the earliest extant episode, but it's on its own & the rest are all together in a boxset, so I'm doing this one first & then going back to the 1 or 2 from before it 😛

Time to start my 2025 viewing. First up: #TheAvengers - a massive gap for a #CultTV fan like me. I've seen odd episodes over the years but it never really clicked for me until I watched The Cybernauts trilogy. I'm giving the whole thing a try now from start to finish. Casually, though.

You can tell most people in the UK are returning to work today. The spam cold callers have started up again. Sigh.

Planning my escapist reading for 2025 outside of the Whoniverse. Plenty of Tolkien, plus some new (to me) EM Forster, and re-reads of old, out of print Defoe & Smollett titles - all my comfort zones 😊

Now this is interesting. And rather brilliant! Enjoy.

I love @bigfinish.bsky.social's Bernice Summerfield: The Christmas Collection. I'm a contributing writer, but this isn't self-promotional. Every year I find new & surprising moments to enjoy in all the other stories. A huge amount of that is due to @lisabowerman.bsky.social's peerless narration 🥳
