K-12 educators attending the @historians.org annual meeting in NYC, check out the ~100 sessions below that you can get CTLE professional credit for attending. #aha25 #aha2025. Message me if you have questions.

Reading Gordon Wood’s “Empire of Liberty,” and his description of the Thomas Jefferson’s belief in the Embargo Act of 1807 and its subsequent impact reminded me of this classic tweet (apologies for the profanity, but it’s perfect).

Happy 400th birthday to the world's old living bond! 🎂🎉🎊 www.ft.com/content/5122...

Roxcy Bolton, who we did an episode on earlier this year, was featured in the “Florida Woman” category on tonight’s episode of Jeopardy! Learn more about Roxcy’s work (and the answer) in that episode at the link! podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/t... cc: @thejeopardyfan.com @kenjennings.bsky.social

This post is as good as any for my inaugural BlueSky repost! So wonderful to see amazing and talented people at #NCSS24 this past weekend.

One of the best cultural institutions around: the Miami Book Fair. Happy to be chaperoning a trip with my students this morning!

161 years ago today, Lincoln gave a “few appropriate remarks” at the Dedication of the Soldiers’ National Cemetery, now Gettysburg National Cemetery. #GettysburgAddress www.loc.gov/resource/rbp...

Continental Congress, winter 1776

In case anyone may be curious, I host a podcast called @thisdaymiamipod.com. It’s obviously locally focused, but I think there are some larger lessons to be learned from Miami’s past. Just imported the Tweet archive as well. I’d love feedback from folks!

This place is really real now: Kimberly Huffman has joined us! Follow @jmfellow08.bsky.social!

I upgraded my handle to reflect my website. It’s quite easy to do and looks fancy-pants if I do say so myself!

A starter pack for K-12 history/social studies teachers. Please help to get the word out and let me know if you would like to be added. go.bsky.app/Ej43Kbg

Hello Bluesky! I’ve migrated my personal Twitter account, but not my professional. Time to rectify that! I teach juniors and seniors at the School for Advanced Studies in Miami. I’m public school proud, both as a student and a teacher! My bailiwick is social sciences, with a love for Gov. #EduSky

I’m happy to share that I’m officially graduating from @gettysburg with my master’s in American History this afternoon! The ceremony is at 1 p.m.!

It was a shock when Ana Corrales from @MDCollege’s Center for Education called and told me that I had been chosen as this year’s @FLAeconomics Charles C. Harper Economic Educator of the Year. 1/2

Really pleased with my @TheBeaconMAST reporters with this story. They worked with PIOs to help the reporting on the story in the school stronger. “Officer draws gun on MAST senior hiding with water gun”

I have officially created a @JamesMadisonFdn corner in my classroom. Want to join me in the fellowship? Apply at

I always have my students read the Articles of Confederation (it’s a pretty darn short document) and this always causes a few raised eyebrows. Students wonder why they wouldn’t have joined, which leads us right into the difficulties the country faced in the 1780s.

So happy to be back at it with the @ConstitutionCtr’s Teacher Advisory Council tonight! Interested in joining this year? Follow the link!

The most important person in my pathway to the @JamesMadisonFdn: @JMFellow08! So happy to finally meet her in person! A thousand thank yous!

I want to thank Florida Society @SarHeadquarters and the Ladies Auxiliary for recognizing me as the Dr. Tom & Betty Lawrence American History Teacher Award winner for Florida last weekend. Being a Sons of the American Revolution compatriot, the honor was even more appreciated.

It’s a great @RetroReport week when my lesson plan gets shared in the Retro Report Education Newsletter and I get to use the Teacher Ambassador swag! If you haven’t already signed up for it, get a great free resource here!

Did some extracurricular teaching today, presenting a paper I wrote on the Articles of Confederation for my masters program to my regional @SarHeadquarters chapters. cc: @JamesMadisonFdn

Currently prepping a presentation to my regional @SarHeadquarters chapters (of which I’m a member), and I’m focusing on the Articles of Confederation. I always start at @ConstitutionCtr, and wouldn’t you know they have a new, and great, article! #NCCed

Excited that I was able to present on behalf of @MountVernon’s George Washington Teacher Institute this morning at the @MDCPSSocStudies Fall Conference. I spoke about the Founding Era, how the Constitution evolves afterward, and great teacher programs at Mount Vernon. #GWTI

Today @MAST_Academy seniors who are eligible and registered are at @MDCollege North to vote for the first time! Thanks to @MDCPS, @MDCPSSocStudies, and the @MiamiHEAT for sponsoring this fantastic event!

One week after hearing from her challenger, 19 @MAST_Academy students woke up this morning to hear from @RepMariaSalazar. The discussion included student questions and questions from the community. Citizenship in action!

Very excited to see student engagement with campaigns! Some @MAST_Academy students and I were welcomed to a @HermanosCalleUS meet-and-greet with House candidate @Annette_Taddeo. #APUSGov

There’s not much more thrilling than digitizing and sharing online something that has never been seen digitally before. Scanning the first issue of the @MAST_Academy Beacon this morning, it’ll be ready to share soon!

I just had a wonderful conversation with Joshua Duncan in @RepMariaSalazar’s office about the Civics Secures Democracy Act. If you live in Florida’s 27th District like I do, please consider calling the office at 202-225-3931 to show your support for more robust Civics education!

It was a pleasure to talk to @OBWax of @TIME for an article published last month. My concerns are specifically aligned to @CollegeBoard's AP US #Government and #Politics curriculum, but can be present in any number of facets of social sciences education.

AP US Gov scores higher than I could have asked for, AP Macro scores still annoyingly low, but a significant improvement over last year. I really need to crack that nut, but I will enjoy the good news today.

As my students get ready for the @CollegeBoard AP Macro exam tomorrow, I pulled up @CNBC to watch @federalreserve chair Powell’s press conference on rate hikes. He’s watching it like it’s Nick Jr.! A good omen for tomorrow, perhaps? #APMacro

I cannot convey how honored I am to share that I have been selected as a @JamesMadisonFdn Fellow representing the state of Florida. The program includes a $24,000 scholarship to continue to pursue my MA in American History while participating in the unparalleled Summer Institute.

The current scene at @MAST_Academy. Students are making their opinions known. #HB1557

Today is state government day! Letters from @MAST_Academy seniors are heading to representatives and @FLSenate senators in Tallahassee! We eagerly await your response! @IleanaGarciaUSA @DuranForFlorida @senpizzo @valoupis @RepDemi @RepRodriguez118 @ShevrinJones @repfelrobinson

Heads up @MiamiDadeBCC! Letters from @MAST_Academy seniors will be on your desk before your meeting tomorrow on a variety of topics! We eagerly await a response from you or your offices! @RaquelRegalado @CommishEileen @JoeMartinez4026 @KeonHardemon @jeanmonestime @kionnemcghee

It can sometimes be easier to criticize than praise government, so allow me to praise for a second. Alejandro in Commissioner @RaquelRegalado’s office just offered to go above and beyond to help with a school-related issue. Constituent services are so important, and he’s great!

I just left this message on the @MDCPS line regarding the hiring of our next superintendent (305.731.2377). I encourage you to leave your comment as well. “My name is Matthew Bunch, and I am a proud Miami-Dade County Public Schools teacher at MAST Academy on Virginia Key.” 1/x

Taking the day-before-the-break opportunity to show my favorite episode of Eyes on the Prize, Bridge to Freedom. It may be the best, most important hour of television ever aired. Never more important than now.

It was wonderful to host @SarahEHarris2 and U.S. magistrate judge, Hon. Karoline Mehalchick, in my class last week to discuss questions around the Second Amendment. It was so illuminating! If you haven't signed up for a Scholar Exchange, get on it! #NCCed

I’m so pleased to share that I’ve been published in @flhistoryed’s October 2021 “In Context.” It’s a challenge to the chronologic teaching of U.S. History, instead emphasizing thematic teaching to avoid critical gaps in learning.

I just discovered the National @ConstitutionCtr's "Writing Rights: The Bill of Rights" webpage, and I might be gone all day. What a resource for history and government teachers! #NCCed

No one in the world has a better classroom view than I do. No. Body.

I can’t thank Mr. @ChrisDuggan84 and Ms. @SarahEHarris2 enough for the wonderful @ConstitutionCtr and its Scholar Exchange program. Today’s private session was on Constitutional Conversations and Civil Dialogue. So much great info (and awesome questions from the students)! #NCCed
