The nflreadr development version now has a nice new feature. `nflreadr::clean_team_abbrs()` can now convert full team names and nicknames to the corresponding nflverse team abbreviation. I've needed this a lot recently when parsing different websites. Code in ALT text.

With the 2025 NFL schedule released, I used the Vegas win totals by Pinnacle to compute the 2025 strength of schedule for each team based on the projected wins of their opponents as of today. Compared to all schedules since 2002, 91% were more difficult than the 2025 Niners.

NFL 2025 schedule is out! Let's have a look at each team's schedule and the strength of their opponents measured in expected wins through Vegas win totals. Red lines represent team win total. Opponents above red line are expected to win more games, opps below the red line are expected to win less.

Annual update of my post on draft curves. This uses 2nd contract value to estimate the value of each draft pick, including by position. This update incorporates the 2020 draft class, which saw some huge hits at WR including Lamb, Jefferson, and Aiyuk. opensourcefootball.com/posts/2023-0...

With 32 picks in the books, here is how each pick compared to their ranking on @arif.bsky.social’s consensus big board. "steal" = player was among the best available players when selected, "reach" = player ranked lower on board when selected.

The #NFL draft comes closer so here is what the market thinks who will be drafted at picks 1-10. Percentages are the vig removed probabilities according to DraftKings that a player will be picked at the corresponding position. Data as of today and subject to change. #nflverse

Here have my dog's face in these trying times

@hadley.nz I have seen this on my GitHub start page and it made me realize that I should update two of my packages that use magick as strong dependency. Thank you for your service.

Nothing to see here. Just me making the switch to base pipe in #rstats nflfastR.

🚨🚨 MAJOR UPDATE RELEASED 🚨🚨 nflseedR #rstats package 📦 v2 is now live on CRAN. Updates include a new generation of -- high efficient code to calculate NFL standings and apply tiebreakers (almost max depth), and -- high efficient code to simulate tens of thousands NFL seasons.

Random #rstats finding today. I have gt tables rendering external images in pkgdown articles and building the articles took forever. It turned out to be due to knitr/Rmd. Switch to Quarto and it runs in a few seconds!

I am beyond excited to share nflseedR 2.0 with the community. It took me one and a half years to complete this and I think it is pretty good.

I just finished nflseedR 2.0 lol. And now they discuss changing the seeding system

@benstiller.redhour.com thank you for Severance! I've really enjoyed the second season so far. Thanks also for making me wait 1 week for the season finale (I hate it). Going to play this while I wait.

More than 250 moves so far. It's been a busy few days
