Sen. Alex Padilla, who was just forcibly removed from a DHS press conference, is the ranking member of Judiciary’s subcommittee on immigration, citizenship, and border safety, which has “oversight of federal agencies with citizenship, asylum, refugee, and immigration enforcement responsibilities.”

This is insane and also I hope that seeing a US fucking senator thrown to the ground and cuffed for asking a question will help some of the people who still aren’t getting it to recognize that THE POLICE ARE THE SOURCE OF THE VIOLENCE

It is 100% carrying water for the opposition to participate in this collective delusion that Dems for some reason need to answer for every teen who throws a rock rather than hold the Trump admin accountable for intentionally creating chaos and breaking the law to stoke violence. They are in charge.

Unrest during the Biden admin would be bad for Dems, but unrest during the Trump admin is also… bad for Dems. Because media and political thinkers have internalized the idea that Trump is Mr. Law and Order and all unrest inherently benefits him, even when he causes it.

Trump sends 5,000 military to invade & occupy LA, and NYT headline is literal false-equivalency he-said-she-said.

Insurrection Act because not enough Abundance

this is an extremely bad scene

MAJOR UPDATE: The Supreme Court just handed DOGE the keys to all the sensitive personal information Social Security has on file — your income, benefits, health records, and more. Why do Donald Trump and his cronies need access to millions of Americans’ private data? It’s absurd.

Biden failed at many things but he made a major break with Clintonite free trade and especially Obama's pint-sized stimulus policy and got basically no credit for it. Not Great for the prospects of future full employment

Thread: New from @taxlawcenter.org: we get in the weeds (footnotes) and also big picture on the section 899 "revenge"/retaliation tax in the House bill that's under active consideration in the Senate. taxlawcenter.org/work/revenge...

if it takes years, has to be consequences for all these people, and even more for those who gave the orders.

well i for one am shocked that illegally stopping life-saving aid, illegally defunding cancer research, illegally hampering social security delivery, and illegally defunding head start didn’t go over well

Flagrant disrespect to our country and the military but the media ignores it because they like him and want to help him. Obama "saluting with the coffee cup" was replayed multiple times a day for years on Fox News as if it was a huge scandal. This will be treated by the press like it's normal

it's state propaganda now

NEW from me: Trump's 90-day pause on the China trade war still leaves tariffs at the highest level since the Great Depression—and that's before upcoming sector-specific tariffs or possible un-pausing Trump may be easing his trade war, but he's far from ending it🧵 www.apricitas.io/p/trumps-ret...

Like an arsonist claiming they’re actually a firefighter, the GOP preaches fiscal responsibility while adding trillions more to our deficit with tax cuts that benefit mostly large corporations and the richest few.

Budget Committee finally convenes, but GOP Budget Chair Arrington says he cannot explain any changes that have been made in order to change previous negative GOP votes. No transparency on what has happened in any back room deals.

At 10:20 pm, Republicans are still arguing over the ugly details of their “one big beautiful bill” in a room adjacent to the committee as we wait for the 10 pm scheduled meeting to begin.

Republican control of the information environment means voters don't hear about GOP failures but Dem failures are endlessly repeated. When no Dem failures exist they invent fake ones and repeat those

Two fewer cars on the streets of Washington, DC as my staffers Jillian and Mark participate in #BikeToWorkDay. Bike commuting burns calories instead of carbon, and as an active Member of the Congressional Bike Caucus, I work to improve cycling infrastructure.

In an all-night session, lasting from Tuesday afternoon until Wednesday morning, I joined Ways and Means Democrats in fighting against the GOP tax bill. At around 6:30 am, I highlighted how those who run hedge funds pay less tax than folks who trim hedges.

The Republicans all voted against my amendment to put a limit on the GOP tax bill that explodes the debt – if you earn above $400,000 a year, then we would not extend the benefits in the GOP tax bill to you. Nope, even the richest of the rich will not be asked to pay their fair share.

Jason Smith has spent very little time in his own committee's markup of this tax bill. He heralded it as a bill "written by the American people" (??) and had pointed early exchanges with Dems like Doggett and Suozzi, but 10 hours in we've barely seen him. The committee Chairman!

Republicans add trillions of dollars to our deficit to give those who earn more than $1 million per year 310x the benefit of those who earn $50,000 per year. In Trump’s “golden age,” the billionaires get the gold, the rest get crumbs.

The Republicans on the left side of this dais are working to legislate more budget busting tax breaks for billionaires today.

“Prioritizing the needs of huge multinational corporations that continue to avoid taxes and offshore American jobs over ordinary people is not only fiscally irresponsible: it is simply wrong.” Our @factcoalition.bsky.social reaction to the House tax package. thefactcoalition.org/house-tax-pa...

House GOP claims to care about our national debt, but the solution offered this week in Trump's "One Big Beautiful Bill" will make it up to $7 trillion worse. I joined @velshimsnbc.bsky.social to discuss how the GOP is so wedded to Trump & billionaires that they’re preparing to wreck our economy.

🚨 IT’S OFFICIAL: House Republicans’ marquee tax bill to cut fat tax breaks for billionaires is coming to the Ways and Means Committee. Tuesday, May 13, 2025, 2pm ET.

Something I hope everyone covers this tomorrow notes is that...the President has no authority whatsoever to make trade deals without congress. None. Not even the pretext of one.

This is blatantly authoritarian. No specific and credible allegations are laid against Krebs, beyond the fact he undermined the President's false claims about a stolen election. Nevertheless, Trump will direct the federal government to make his life hell. www.nytimes.com/2025/05/01/u...

As Trump and his Congressional allies insist on taking away health coverage and food from working class Americans in part to pay for tax cuts for billionaires...

The Canadian election result shows that the 2024 US election might have gone very differently if American voters could somehow have known in advance what it would be like to have Donald Trump as president

this is why we all fell in love with football. a referee staring at endless TV replays of a tackle in the knowledge that whatever decision he makes his child will get death threats

"Some officials say U.S. citizens who criticize administration policies could be charged with crimes" I always wondered how mainstream journalism would cover an impending dictatorship here. Now we know.

Trump is following through on his pledge to lower prices

Turns out you can shape the agenda with dramatic action and maybe even shift public opinion. Crazy.

New, from me: The Trump administration is killing Direct File, the free IRS e-filing tool. Users love it, and it creates incredible value for the public. It's the clearest sign that DOGE wants a government that serves private and not public interests. 🧵 donmoynihan.substack.com/p/the-death-...
