Again, Sonny right up there but Tottenham....🤦🏻‍♀️

Tottenham scoring this many goals but.... 🤦🏻‍♀️

"After a judge blocked a Trump executive order, Elon Musk shared a post with his more than 200 million followers on X that included the judge’s daughter’s name, photo and job, allegedly at the Department of Education." Boy I missed that detail. www.nytimes.com/2025/02/21/o...

Democratic Rep. Robert Garcia has published a letter sent to him by Trump’s Department of Justice threatening to potentially prosecute him for criticizing Elon Musk.

My wife - a pediatrician - emailed John Cornyn to oppose the RFK nomination. She got an email back calling her “Mr. Stewart” and deferring to Trump’s choices.

New: We spoke to government IT employees/contractors about DOGE. Their warnings were dire. The people who maintain the systems that keep the country working are terrified. "This is the largest data breach and the largest IT security breach in our country’s history—at least that’s publicly known."

As MLK famously said, injustice anywhere isn’t really a big deal to justice everywhere, no matter how much the loudest voices might want to equate the two

Academics: Do you imagine you're in the clear b/c you've played it safe, avoided commenting on so-called "controversial" issues, and/or don't teach or write on one of "those" subjects? Think again. It may start with x, y, or z "issues" or subjects. But rest assured that will be just the beginning.

Sigh. If only they did.........

It takes just one rich white dude to change everything..... EVERYTHING...

After sleepless weeks…. It was about time.

I am so anxious about the Manchester Derby this weekend. Manchester City was the only stable element in my life and now even that is not going so well. 🤕

Une vue générale de ce qui s'est passé ces derniers jours en Corée du sud, et un point sur la situation politique. Pas mal plus complet que ce qu'on a pu lire dans les principaux médias. Par @heesoojang.bsky.social

This sounds so....familiar to what is going on in SK and the claims Yoon's regime is making...

Grandparents are texting college students to ‘not walk around alone, always have your ID with you, and don’t look into the eyes of the police or military officers when you see them on the streets’ in tears. v.daum.net/v/2024120609...

I had to live through this for the whole day.. and now a whole week until any decisions are made...

📢In our new report, co-authored with @richardfletcher.bsky.social, @rasmuskleis.bsky.social, & @shannimcg.bsky.social, we examine how people in🇦🇷🇧🇷🇩🇪🇯🇵🇪🇸🇰🇷🇬🇧🇺🇸 use platforms and their views on platform governance, privacy, & misinformation. We find evidence of ‘platform ambivalence’, and a lot more (1/5).

Looks like it will be a sleepless Friday night for me....

The worst scenario is NK seeing Yoon's regime as a threat and declaring 'liberation' of the SK... This will start a war...

As of last evening, my follower count, which was around 300, has increased to 1.9K this morning. Most of them appear to be foreigners interested in Korea’s martial law situation. Thank you. Here's an update on the situation in Korea:

Warning is circulating that Yoon will try to declare martial law for the second time, holding the citizens who are peacefully demonstrating after the first one as hostages.

We shouldn’t rush to dismiss President Yoon's #MartialLawOrder as simply "crazy" and move on. We need to uncover exactly what happened, when it began, and what the ultimate goal was. New evidence hints it may have been planned in advance, involving individuals we have yet to identify. #SouthKorea

One of the Korean soldiers apologizes to the journalist. For me, this captures everything.

As I was explaining to my teenager today, I told her BTS release date from military duty would have been delayed if the martial law held. Her concerned face turned murderous at that very second. She said another ARMY would have taken actions.

How desperately journalists and citizens tried to block the military troops from entering the building last night…. www.threads.net/@gimsaedal_/...

SKoreans are known for impatience. Opp party members will be drafting the impeachment bill today, reporting to Natl Assembly tomorrow. They’re also holding Def Min and Interior & Safety Min accountable bc they’re the only cabinet members empowered legally to propose martial law. naver.me/FEUjW6Mp

South Korea avoided martial law and restored democracy because the people moved fast, hit hard, and didn’t fucking stop. That’s how you protect democracy—decisive action, not complacent hand-wringing.

everyone say thank you to the good people of korea

As @heesoojang.bsky.social said, the joke is on Yoon if he thought he could turn back the clock to more than 40 years of democratic movements. Most of the experiences from previous authoritarian/military regime is still an open wound for half of the country.

Saving to read later #dataViz

And so it begins....

I just received this emergency statement from a coalition of media organizations in South Korea. "President Yoon Suk-yeol Must Withdraw Martial Law and Resign Immediately. An unimaginable event has become a reality in the 21st century...." Full statement below. 🧵

And our politicians did not have sufficient courage to impeach an insurrectionist president.

And what are we doing?

In light of the martial war declaration in South Korea, here are some people you should follow for informed analyses & news about the developing situation. Koreanists: go.bsky.app/U3Nm5FX Korea watchers: go.bsky.app/9SrguSU Korean studies scholars: go.bsky.app/8nRZ5tp + @koreajoongangdaily.com

Who knows how this turns out but this is a positive development, if accurate, and also wow, Yoon and the conservatives really seem to have overestimated their police and military support and really underestimated the opposition and the people 👇
