"The biggest room in the world is room for improvement". Sound like a cracking Carol Dweck quote, doesn't it? It's actually from Pitbull. Yes, that 'fireball' guy. Cheesy at it is, this quote really sung to me (pun intended).

Do we spend so much time thinking about implementation, that we forget about de-implementation? Do we forget that something new can be tied in to something that we're already doing?

A superb day today up North, with Middlesbrough College at their annual ITE Conference! A joy to speak about metacognition in FE and HE, exploring why it's important and what can be done to improve and embed these skills. Thank you for having me!

Today was a brilliant day, but I'm really grateful of the huge support that I had from Kay Shepherd and E-ACT! At very late notice my eldest's childcare was closed for the day, and with nowhere else for him to go on his INSET day, he came along with me to the E-ACT Primary Summit in Birmingham!

Professional development should be freely available to all. That's why in June and July this year I am running 6 (six) 1 hour sessions around metacognition, problem solving, independence, resilience, evaluation (and so much more) on a 'pay what you feel' basis.

Incredibly excited to be leading this session "But I Just Can't Do It" at #MathsConf37 in just a few weeks time. We know that students can struggle accessing Maths. This session will explore some of these reasons, but more importantly, provide some solutions. Suitable for all! See you there! 👋

As we've hit the holidays, I've taken a breath to consider the 6 week half term that we've just had... - Over 15 schools visited - Delivered to over 800 teachers - Driven over 6000 miles - Observed over 100 lessons - Supported 10 trainees directly - Over 25 different sessions delivered

So the penultimate day of the half-term led me all the way to... Nottingham! My closest visit to home all year, to work with 25 ECTs, across a range of subjects, phases and contexts, exploring the importance of metacognition and what they could do differently in their classrooms.

Is there still a stigma around ADHD and ASD? On more than one occasion this year, I've been approached by an audience member, post talk, asking me how I can be so comfortable and confident saying that I am neurodivergent.

FREE CPD!! Looking to develop KS3/4/5 Mathematics in your establishment? Then join me tomorrow to explore Metacognition and Mathematics at Upper Secondary. 1 hour, completely free, and with a recording (so do sign up even if you're unable to join live).

What makes someone metacognitive? I've been giving this question a lot of thought recently, because it impacts both our evaluation of how metacognitive an individual is, and most importantly, how we can improve their metacognitive skills.

Insisting on silence in the classroom continues to be controversial; but it shouldn't be. Students cannot learn where they aren't listening to the instruction of their teacher. Hence, absolute silence is a must. The relationship between school outcomes, and classroom behaviours is clear and evident

I have quite a big Mr Metacognition update... There's a new member of the team 🐶 Meet Luigi!

Something curious happened to me today. My trolley got stolen in Tesco. We later found that all of our items had been taken out and dumped under a clothes rail. Has this ever happened to anyone else before?

Friday was a cracker! Jumping on the podcast with @shaneleaning.com at 12am UK time before a whole day working with a superb secondary Maths team down in Staffordshire! Busy, but brilliant! Thanks for having me on the pod, Shane!

Looking forward to Co-delivering this with my focus on the anxiety aspect. Can you join? Think it will be particularly helpful for those working with children with anxiety, along with year 11s

It was a true pleasure to lead this talk on metacognition and modelling to well over 150 attendees. The feedback has been wonderful too - incredibly chuffed to receive such glowing reviews from so many people! Already looking forward to next year!

A whole afternoon, with my Maths trainees, talking about and then making Maths resources. Yes. Thank. You. 🥳🎉

Loved doing this talk!!

I’m looking forward to co-delivering this event next Wednesday! #EduSky #Kidsmh
