I walked from Oxenhope to Hebden Bridge over the moors today. Brontë -Wuthering Heights scenery. 9 miles with Beans my whippet. He loved it & nearly caught a rabbit. But 23°C in April at 450m altitude isn’t normal in Northern England in April. Beans is tuckered out.

⚠️ Top Withens in Brontë Country: unique protected Yorkshire peat bog under threat As we celebrate Earth Day, will the government let short-term cash trump the long-term conservation of our carbon-storing blanket peat bogs? By Nick MacKinnon yorkshirebylines.co.uk/region/top-w...

Quite chuffed with this pic of @pigsx7.bsky.social from Friday in Manchester.

I try to buy local. When that’s not an option, I do my best to buy European.

For services to the pharmaceutical industries presumably.

When the world is falling apart, I poached some pears in red wine. They were good. I feel happier.

Green energy and wind farms are good. I think so, except when they’re built on blanket peat bog… Read this: markavery.info/2025/03/27/g...

Staying at a working farm in Northumberland due to my wife’s job. My daughter & me got to cuddle newborn lambs.

I think my daughter & me have worn our whippet out today! 14 miles for us, probably double that for him! He’s had his best day.

My whippet Beans having the best time at Embleton Bay beach this morning.

We need this in the UK

Whilst the world turns to shit, a day on a beach with my dog soothes my soul.

Winston Churchill not wearing a suit at the White House when he met FDR in 1942.

In worrying times, here are some photos I’ve taken today at Wells Next The Sea.

Anna B Savage and band were superb last night but why is it becoming more common for people to talk loudly, constantly & in large groups at gigs? Why don’t they just stayin the pub or restaurant? I don’t get it. I had to ask two different groups of people near us to pipe down last night…

The Incident. Live at The Trades Club in Hebden Bridge earlier today.

I once loved cricket. www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricke...

With a staggering lack of self awareness, Chris Philp reckons the UK needs to get a work ethic…

My first attempt at cold smoking fish; salmon & haddock in this instance. I’ve cured both overnight in salt, sugar, dill & pepper. The salmon has also been soused in whisky.

A seasonal Sunday lunch. Appetiser - haggis, caramelised apple, smoked bacon lardons (1st attempt at curing & smoking bacon) whisky cream sauce, parsley. Main - pheasant braised in apples & cider, locally shot, plucked & prepped by me. Stewed Yorkshire rhubarb & homemade custard for dessert.

I love Haworth when it’s covered in snow.

A stunning walk from Oxenhope to Haworth over the moor today with my friend Clifford & my dog, Beans the whippet. Extremely cold, we saw no other walkers, it was beautiful.

It’s just started snowing here. 30-40cm forecast at our altitude in the South Pennines. My cat Loki has hunkered down in his favourite spot on the dogs bed be the radiator. Our dog Beans the whippet never dares to try & shift him!

Walkies with my pooch. I wore him out!

I went Christmas shopping in The Piece Hall, Halifax today & treated myself to this. I wonder how many people these days know who it is?

I’ve really enjoyed the BBC4 re runs of winter walks this week. My favourite was @alastaircampbell2.bsky.social tonight. A thoughtful, interesting and entertaining monologue on a walk in one of my favourite bits of the Yorkshire Dales. He’d be very near the top of my fantasy dinner party guests.

I’ve spent a couple of days helping decorate the church steps at the top of Main Street in Haworth, West Yorkshire.

John Bramwell at the New Century Hall in Manchester was a bit special tonight.

I’ve only just realised that ministers special advisers (SPADS) are paid from the public purse (our taxes). How can that be allowed? They’re unelected political appointments paid for by us. Duplicating work done by the civil service. A massive cost saving opportunity I think. Get rid.
