This week, I was feeling nostalgic for the music of my high school years. I found some old favorites in my CD binder. open.substack.com/pub/adrianne...

This felt like the exact right time of the school year to talk about what it means to be a teacher + I really cannot think of a better person to have that conversation with than @heymrsbond.com. So that's what we did! Keep an 👀 out tomorrow AM for the full conversation!

We end each of these conversations with an affirmation to another educator in your life, and I'll say this: Find a colleague who talks about you the way @heymrsbond.com talks about these two teachers she works with 🥲 (and then pay it forward when you can!)

This is absolutely the perfect conversation for Teacher Appreciation Week! I can’t wait. #TeacherSky

With a series of vivid and wide-ranging cases, @remialir.bsky.social reconceptualizes annotation as more than just marginalia and underlining, but a way of writing back to power. "Re\Marks on Power" is available now and #openaccess: mitpress.mit.edu/978026255103...

If students don’t feel confident telling their own story, others will tell it for them. I love how @marcusluther.bsky.social centers storytelling for his final unit with students! #TeacherSky

Standardized Testing season is upon us! For a thoughtful take amid the heated debates, check out @marcusluther.bsky.social and @mrneibauer.bsky.social on The Broken Copier podcast. Like Batman meeting Superman, these educational heroes deliver insights worth your time!

As I’m reflecting on my students’ end-of-year growth data, I’m reminded of a piece I wrote mid-year. Is it possible to be an effective teacher and have standardized test scores show no academic growth? #TeacherSky #EduSky open.substack.com/pub/adrianne...

If a student is struggling in math, dyscalculia could be the reason. ➗ Here are some ways to recognize signs—and strategies designed for learners with dyscalculia. #dyscalculia #EduSky #ITeachMath

Wow! This hits hard. Especially the mentally labeling kids while pacing the room. Standardized testing culture is the air we all breathe. It's challenging for our brains NOT to think these thoughts. The sad truth is that nothing has changed. #TeacherSky #EduSky

This simple partner activity gives students a chance to practice new skills *and* build ownership over their learning. 🙌 #60SecondStrategies #MathSky #ElementaryTeacher

I worry that the continued push toward Same Way; Same Day teaching will push talented teachers out of public education and away from the profession entirely. #TeacherSky #EduSky open.substack.com/pub/adrianne...

April/May in 5th Grade is like no other time. I simultaneously feel closer to my students and need them to move on as quickly as possible! #TeacherSky

A downside of state testing is that it narrows the curriculum because teachers are pressured to teach "what will be on the test," which teachers can surmise from previous high stakes tests. #edchat

Teachers. Raise your hand if you are already thinking about or planning for next year. #TeacherSky

The idea to create an "onboarding" system for the classroom makes so much sense and I cannot wait to come up with one for next year 🙏 @mrneibauer.bsky.social adrianneibauer.substack.com/p/onboarding...

Welcoming new students is an important part of creating a strong classroom community. #TeacherSky #EduSky #SubstackSky open.substack.com/pub/adrianne...

We need the best educated workforce in the world. We need the best teachers in the world. We need to pay our teachers fairly for the important work they do. No teacher in America should begin at less than $60,000 a year.

Setting "hot takes" aside, I think there's value in just talking about what it means to be a teacher during standardized testing season—how it impacts our students and classroom, but also how we see ourselves. thebrokencopier.substack.com/p/lets-talk-...

I very much enjoyed this conversation with @marcusluther.bsky.social. Every year, I go through an existential crisis around standardized testing. I appreciate getting an opportunity to talk about it. #TeacherSky #EduSky

I don’t usually overhaul my instructional practice mid-spring, but sometimes my students need it. Having an ever-evolving pedagogical practice is the work of teachers and has made a huge difference in how I teach. #TeacherSky #EduSky #SubstackSky open.substack.com/pub/adrianne...

We are never going to rebuild students’ reading stamina with short, standardized texts. Whether generated by AI or curriculum companies, dissecting passages may raise test scores a few points, but creates atrophied readers who cannot read an entire novel. Kids need books! #EduSky #TeacherSky

“Boring basal readers.” We need to be talking more about this.
