By the 1980s this was rare. BUT: in the early 1980s, my mom knew a mom who'd lost her baby to epiglottis. Looked like a cold/croup until suddenly it was not, & the baby died. Mom told me this story and when I had my own children in the early 2000s I worried when they had croup. So I googled.
