This area used to be an oily, mucky mosquito hole for most of the summer, collecting runoff from the right-of-way. Now it’s a thriving rain garden, with masses of giant Joe Pye Weed, over a thick mass of blue Flags and plenty of surrounding Cardinalflowers. No more mosquitoes, too!

I was just reminded that the traditional Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse were War, Conquest, Famine and Death; and not (as both I and the present regime thought) War, Famine, Disease and Death. Guess they’re just big Disease fans.

Today on the beach: Ghost Crabs (never seen before!) and the really pugnacious Semipalmated Sandpipers!

The happy little Marsh Wrens were really going at it. Sometimes the emotion would become so huge that they’d launch themselves into the air like fizzy little feather bombs, and flail their way back down, sputtering and gurgling. A cell phone can only give a hint, but you can see him a bit.
