UPDATE: Kelly the kitten underwent surgery this week to repair her diaphragmatic hernia and survived! She's now on a long road to recovery but this is a big first step that was only possible thanks to the support of everyone who donated. Thank you for helping this sweet kitten ❤️

“We commend the judge on his decision to continue holding this person without bail,” said MSPCA Law Enforcement Director, Chris Schindler. “Animal cruelty should be a factor in determining the risks an individual poses to the community, and this decision reflects that.” www.wwlp.com/news/massach...

MSPCA takes in Australian Cattle dog rescued from home with 96 dead animals

UPDATE: The defendant in the Sturbridge animal cruelty case was held without bail after being found dangerous by a judge during a hearing yesterday [April 1]. He also surrendered an eight-month-old Australian Cattle dog to our care, and we're working to get her ready for adoption 1/

This sweet kitten is Kelly. She’s an eight-week-old who plays, purrs and tries to explore like any other kitten her age, but something inside of her body is very wrong. She has a congenital diaphragmatic hernia, a hole in her diaphragm that’s letting her abdominal organs push into her chest 1/

UPDATE: Astrid is now at Nevins! She arrived yesterday and is settling in. We’ll keep you posted on how her healing journey is going 🐴 ❤️

"According to MSPCA Law Enforcement Director Chris Schindler, Sebastiano left the property in February. "This was a devastating scene, and we wish that we had been able to intercede in the weeks before these animals perished, but, unfortunately, the call came too late," said Schindler"

Young horse from Western Mass. on ‘slow road to recovery’ after filly discovered emaciated

NEW: This is Astrid, a nearly two-year-old Percheron filly who was surrendered to us on March 7 as part of an ongoing MSPCA Law Enforcement investigation. She was emaciated and had sores on her body, which is something that often happens when horses are down for a prolonged period of time 1/

"“Most of the pet shops now in Massachusetts use brokers to get their animals. So there’s a middleman, and it becomes more difficult for both us and for consumers to know where those puppies are coming from,” [MSPCA Advocacy Director Kara Holmquist] said."

Some feel good Friday news: We spayed and neutered nearly 200 animals yesterday across our Community Clinics and at TJO in Springfield! The surgeries will help address a critical backlog that, if not addressed, could see a resurgence of animal overpopulation in Massachusetts 1/

Donate to help us care for these pups at mspca.org/givingday ❤️

"“The kittens were covered in fleas, which caused severe anemia—something that’s a problem for any animal, but it’s deadly for young cats like these,” said Mike Keiley, MSPCA-Angell Vice President of Animal Protection." via @wwlp-22news.bsky.social: www.wwlp.com/news/massach...

NEW: These two kittens, along with a third, came to us earlier this month in critical condition, covered in fleas and suffering from severe anemia. We acted quickly with an emergency blood transfusion. Sadly, one kitten did not make it but we’re giving everything to help the remaining two survive 1/

Black bears are emerging from their dens! They're generally shy around people, but may approach homes if they're looking for food, and could return if they're able to find it. It's on us to protect them by making sure they don't get too comfy around us and our property. Learn more: mspca.org/bear 🐻

"Pet-friendly housing can be hard to find in Massachusetts. Just under 40% of rental units in the state allow some kind of pet, and only 7% have no breed or weight restrictions, according to MSPCA research."
