During the next Community Call, we will be joined by Maria Levchenko and Bianca Kramer @msphelps.bsky.social, who will discuss navigating the technical setup and picking the right tools for posting preprint reviews. Don't forget to sign up and join us on February 26! #OpenScience buff.ly/4h7Oyh2

🔍 Tracking transformative agreements and the articles that are part of them is harder than it should be. We developed a method combining #openmetadata from OpenAlex & @coalitions-oa.bsky.social Journal Checker Tool data. w/ @hldejonge.bsky.social and @msphelps.bsky.social doi.org/10.31222/osf...

New preprint! Tracking transformative agreements w/ #openmetadata. We developed and tested a method to identify papers published under these contracts using data from OpenAlex & @coalitions-oa.bsky.social Journal Checker Tool. w/ @msphelps.bsky.social @jeroenson.bsky.social: doi.org/10.31222/osf...

New preprint: we developed an open method to track transformative agreements using OpenAlex & @coalitions-oa.bsky.social Journal Checker Tool data. Testing with Dutch Research Council NWO publications showed 89% accuracy 🎯w/ @hldejonge.bsky.social @jeroenson.bsky.social: doi.org/10.31222/osf...

Great validation of the use of open metadata to assess #openaccess under transformative agreements, using Dutch research information. I particularly liked the discussion of cases where a match did not work, highlighting the complexity of some agreements and gaps in open metadata!

Announcing the release of Common Corpus 2. The largest fully open corpus for pretraining comes back better than ever: 2 trillion tokens with document-level licensing, provenance and language information. huggingface.co/datasets/Ple...

To what extent do researchers funded by Dutch Research Council NWO and ZonMw share the research data and code underlying their publications? Today we published an analysis based on 10.000+ papers using the open source tool Grobid: www.nwo.nl/en/news/shar... All underlying data openly available!

The research environment in the U.S. is going through unprecedented changes, including a ban on preprints for NIH intramural researchers. In response to those events, we would like to share a message of support and ensure that ASAPbio stands firmly for open, inclusive, and uncensored science.🧪 🔬

Research data and software resulting from NWO & ZonMw funding should be shared as openly as possible. But to what extent does this actually happen? A report published today sheds light on compliance with the RDM policy. www.nwo.nl/en/news/shar... And link to the report: zenodo.org/records/1438...

Excited to announce I've been appointed Executive Director of the Barcelona Declaration @barcelonadori.bsky.social , (alongside my other consulting activities). We have funding for the next 3 years and will soon discuss the creation of a governance board. barcelona-declaration.org/news/2025020...

Libraries have given away their data and control over their infrastructure and very few library workers actually want this.

We're excited about the launch of DOI Versioning for Preprints on OSF! 🎉 This major step forward enhances transparency in research and supports innovative publishing models like MetaROR's Publish, Review, Curate approach. Read more: www.cos.io/blog/doi-ver...

So American learned societies do not need to roll over and comply in advance after all (well done @agu.org)

🌐 #OpenConsultation Translating the findings of a European Commission study on enhancing the EU #copyright and data framework, the LIBER Action Plan is designed as practical guidelines for research libraries. We now invite our network to review the Action Plan & add their input👉 ow.ly/Upe850UQZGv

We are pleased to announce a new release of host-level and domain-level web graphs based on the crawls of November, December 2024 and January 2025. The host-level graph consists of 277.7 million nodes and 2.7 billion edges, and the domain-level graph has 100.8 million nodes and 1.9 billion edges.

Well the award for most cowardly, boot-lickingest academic society has squarely gone to the American Society of Microbiology, who has taken down features of various non-white scientists. Absolutely pathetic behavior. Those articles are now coming up as “under review”. Truly sickening cowardice here.

The Internet Archive has to date downloaded 500 terabytes of US government websites, which it crawls at the end of every presidential term. The whole archive is fully searchable. This effort's housed by a donation-funded nonprofit, not a branch of the US government. blog.archive.org/2024/05/08/e...

During the February Community Call, we will be joined by Maria Levchenko (Europe PMC, @ebi.embl.org) and Bianca Kramer @msphelps.bsky.social (Sesame Open Science), who will discuss the preprint review metadata transfer ecosystem within the life sciences. #OpenScience https://buff.ly/4h7Oyh2

The @dfg.de (German Research Foundation) has approved the project SeDOA (Service Point for Diamond Open Access). Aims: establish a diverse scholar-led publication system, support stakeholders at unis and non-profits, promote the further development of #DOA, and more diamond-open-access.de/en/sedoa/

NIH intramural researchers are being told they're not allowed to post preprints. To raise awareness of the vast research affected, and show support for our colleagues, we're making a thread of past NIH IRP preprints. ✴️ 1 like/repost == 1 preprint ✴️ ‼️Please share‼️ https://buff.ly/3PTy6oL

Wut: "NIH staff can also continue to submit papers to journals and abstracts to meetings, and they can correspond with journals about submitted papers... But posting preprints, or unreviewed manuscripts, online is on hold." Cc: @richardsever.bsky.social

And there we go 😡 : NASA removing all mention of 'inclusive' from their TOPS / Open Science 101 course, rewriting what open science is in the process. github.com/nasa/Transfo... (H/T @larswillighagen.bsky.social , @egonw.mastodon.social.ap.brid.gy @jeroenbosman.bsky.social on Mastodon)

This excellent study by @najko.bsky.social confirms what many suspect for quite some time: "current levels of implementation of transformative agreements is insufficient to bring about a large-scale transition to full #openaccess". Published in #QSS @mitpress.bsky.social. doi.org/10.1162/qss_...

Great summary of the Barcelona Declaration on Open Research. Interview by Demmy Verbeke with Bianca Kramer, Cameron Neylon, and Ludo Waltman. "...to make openness of research information the norm..." @barcelonadori.bsky.social @msphelps.bsky.social @ludowaltman.bsky.social #Katina

As of today the national website on #openaccess is completely renewed and it now comes with an awesome new feature: the DiamondOA expertise centre. A result of the national project run by universities and their libraries. www.openaccess.nl/en/diamond-o...
