Trump and his admin are not acting in any semblance of good faith, but the courts are accustomed to giving the executive branch a presumption of regularity and good faith. The result is a giant loophole that lets Trump flagrantly outside the law while the courts chase down every bad-faith appeal.

I am nothing more than a tourist on this subject but what if it increases the probability - even slightly - that the mullahs are finally deposed? Since that would be a massive positive development, even on a net expected value basis, that is a good outcome.
