Duke Snider HR’d off Walter Johnson to break a scoreless tie, he would later triple and come around to score as the 49 Dodgers took out the 24 Senators 4-0. Jackie Robinson added a 2 run HR in support of a brilliant Don Newcombe who went the distance on a 5 hitter in their Strat Summer Slam opener

Final first round game in the Strat Summer Slam double elimination tourney will take place in the nations capital. 1924 Senators host the 1949 Brooklyn Dodgers. Walter Johnson 23-7, 2.72 ERA gets the ball against Don Newcombe 17-8, 3.17 ERA

1911 Philadelphia A’s battered Tom Glavine who allowed 7 runs in an innings worth of work. Philadelphia tortured the 06 Mets staff rapping out 16 hits in a 14-6 drubbing. Stuffy McInnis & Jack Lapp drove in 3 runs apiece to take the Strat Summer Slam opener. Mets fall to the Loser bracket

02 Angels jumped on Mike Cuellar with 2 in the first, Garret Anderson got it started with an RBI single & Darrin Erstad later added a 2 run HR to thump 69 Baltimore 5-0. Jarrod Washburn went 7 getting 3 double plays as the Angels took the opener of the Strat Summer Slam Double elimination tourney

2001 Mariners Strat title run was keyed by stingy pitching and clutch hitting. They posted a 1.62 ERA & 1.00 WHIP allowing a single HR. Jamie Moyer led the way 3-0, .636 WHIP/0.82 ERA. He was co MVP with Edgar Martinez. Martinez hit .351 with 23 TB, 7 RBI and OPS of 1.053. Excellent all around team

Stan Javier stole a pair of bases and was driven home each time in the 01 Mariners 3-0 blanking of the 00 Mets. Freddy Garcia left in the 7th allowing just two hits leaving it to Joel Pineiro to get out of a bases loaded jam to quell the Mets only threat. Mariners win the Strat tourney going 9-2.

We could have a champion crowned at Shea Stadium in GM 2 of the Spring Strat tourney. 01 Mariners after taking the opener can wrap it up against the 2000 Mets. Freddy Garcia 18-6, 3.05 ERA gets the close out opportunity. Mets tap Mike Hampton 15-10, 3.14 ERA to force a deciding contest

Benny Agbayani hit the first HR off of 01 Seattle in the tournament tying the game at 3 in the 7th. With 2 outs in the bottom of the inning Edgar Martinez singled on a 1 split with an out being 2-20 driving home Dan Wilson to beat the 00 Mets 4-3. Jeff Nelson was dominant in 2 innings for the save.

The bottom 2 seeds in the Spring Strat tourney are meeting for the championship. Number 7, 2001 Mariners host the 8th seeded 2000 Mets. Seattle hasn’t allowed a HR in the tourney, & the Mets bullpen hasn’t allowed a run. M’s send Aaron Sele 15-5, 3.60 ERA against Glendon Rush 11-11, 4.01 ERA

Benny Agbayani’s grand slam put the 00 Mets up 6-0 in the 2nd. A wild Al Leiter 8 BB’s let the 73 O’s get within 1. Doyle Alexander out of the pen pitched 6.33 IP hitless ball until he faced Mike Piazza with 2 out in the 8th. Piazza crushed a 2 run shot & Armando Benitez got his 4th save to win 8-5

2000 Mets return home with a chance to move on to the Spring Strat Championship round. Al Leiter 16-8, 3.20 ERA gets the opportunity to close out the 73 Orioles. Baltimore counters with Mike Cuellar 18-13, 3.27 ERA in matchup of tough lefties

Mike Piazza came into the Semis of the Strat tourney without an RBI. He ended that with a leadoff HR as part of a back to back power surge with Robin Ventura. But it was Mike Bordick’s single to close out the 7th inning that was the difference in the 00 Mets 4-3 defeat of Jim Palmer and 73 Baltimore

73 Orioles & 2000 Mets lock horns to decide who moves on to the Finals of the Spring Strat tourney to face 01 Seattle. Baltimore has home field advantage in the best of 3. O’s go with Jim Palmer 22-9, 2.40 ERA. Mets tap Mike Hampton 15-10, 3.14 ERA

71 A’s were no match for Jamie Moyer. The crafty southpaw shutdown Oakland on 4 hits beating the A’s & Vida Blue 7-1. 2001 Mariners got a HR and 2 RBI each from John Olerud & Edgar Martinez moving on to the Finals of the Spring Strat tourney. They will meet either 73 Baltimore or the 2000 Mets

2001 Mariners are back home facing Oakland with a chance to punch their ticket to the Spring Strat Finals. However, it wont be easy as the 71 A’s send Vida Blue 24-8, 1.82 ERA to extend the season. Seattle has Jamie Moyer 20-6, 3.43 ERA going to wrap it up

Freddy Garcia blanked the 71 A’s on 3 hits thru 8 striking out 6 in the 2001 Mariners 2-0 win. It was scoreless until the 7th when Mike Cameron lined a two out double & later came around to score on an Edgar Martinez. Seattle is up in the Strat best of 3 Semis, 1 game to none

2000 Mets exploded for 5 runs in the 3rd to eliminate the top seeded 08 Phillies 7-2. Robin Ventura lined a 2 run single & Todd Ziele followed with a 3 run HR as the Mets cruised to a 7-0 lead. Glendon Rusch was outstanding over 6 innings to get the win while moving NY into the Strat Semifinals
