I may be a literature teacher, but I am equally an advocate for queer and trans kids. I view their safety and their ability to thrive as a mission in life. All people of conscience with children in their lives must fight harder than ever for these kids. 🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈 #transrights #protecttranskids #lgbtqia+

It's wild how constructivism became an insult in education discourse. You mean to tell me the way human brains work doesn't fit into the entirely arbitrary structures of school and it's *the brain's* fault? 🥴

thinking a lot about this lately, and how closely it resembles every college discussion post on Blackboard. "I really like how you said progress is moving things forward, Jeremy! That's such a good point, I agree." and they both get full credit for checking that box on the rubric, 10/10 Good Job!

it feels like a frequent lament these days, one of the great tragedies of our time, that they stopped making good Muppet movies. the memes are right and we all know it, Muppet LOTR would be so good. Muppet Avengers would be less good but still...better than Avengers.

okay i am officially trying to collect some folks on Monday evenings for the foreseeable future to do lil watch parties of documentaries and those hour-long video essays you keep meaning to get to! (largely but not exclusively ed-focused) feel free to ask me about it! 💛 discord.gg/Pj62TgyG?eve...

i think we're gonna start streaming video essays and documentaries in the HRP discord server on monday evenings...kinda wanna call it EdTube? :p

process. over. product. every time. (read this entire thread)

Behaviour lawless as snow-flakes .... words simple as grass .... uncombed head and laughter and naivete;

There’s always room for public schools to improve. But for all the doomsaying you’ll hear in the McMahon hearing as an excuse to privatize: Reminder that, over the past decade, kids who’ve used vouchers to leave public schools suffered horrific results with subprime providers👇

“I went around the corner to see if spring was there.” “Did you find it?” asked Toad. “No,” said Frog. “There was only an old worm asleep on a tree stump.”

i'm never going to get over just how much i needed conversations like this connected to the world around me, as a kid, when what i got was a bunch of isolated nonsense word problems and scantrons in a vacuum. it didn't need to be complex; it didn't need to be "academic." it needed to be *relevant.*

The Most Dangerous Game was in at least three separate years of my schooling and i don't believe a single one of those teachers mentioned (or noticed?) the play on words because it was a game for the hunter but also game is the one being hunted i learned it from an improvised musical podcast.

it's that time of year again - don't forget to read poems to your seeds, friends! 💚

"Education is the point at which we decide whether we love the world enough to assume responsibility for it and by the same token save it from that ruin which, except for renewal, except for the coming of the new and young, would be inevitable." Arendt we really shouldn't have let cynics take over
