I’ve been rereading Being and Time for 10 months and at my current pace will finish in a couple of weeks. I feel like I’m cruising toward a colossal post-reading mood crash. Accomplishment never feels as good as the act of accomplishing!

I've written a free and accessible guide to Cephalopod Sentience with Alex Schnell, Piero Amodio and Peter Morse, stunningly illustrated by Roksolana Tkach. Please download and share! It's worth it for the illustrations alone! 🐙 thebrooksinstitute.org/sites/defaul...

If you are a philosopher, and you make sweeping value judgments about people under conceptual categories like “immigrants from far away,” “poor,” and “the woke”…maybe you don’t quite get what philosophy-doing is about. Callard never seems to have met a question she didn’t know the answer to.

New PhD opportunity embedded in the Philosophy & Ethics Group at TU/e! Great opportunity to explore moral issues with the use of generative AI in healthcare. Please share! jobs.tue.nl/en/vacancy/p.... #philsky #philjobs #philAI #ethics

Movies you've watched more than 6 times (my top 2). Gifs only.

I generally can't stand Bertrand Russell, but when you're right, you're right.

According to @philosophymatters.bsky.social on FB, John Sallis has died. I've lost count of the number of Sallis translations, chapters, and papers I've read over the years. A great loss for philosophy in the United States.

And so my Midgley journey begins... with thanks to @amytaggart.bsky.social for the intro and final nudge during @drelizabethmac1.bsky.social talk at the SWIP Ireland conference! Shout out to @maynoothuniversity.ie Bookshop who actually stocks some Midgley! #science #philosophy #academiclife

Interesting new preprint on why conversations with chatbots may be able to reduce conspiracy beliefs.

I'm just over here sobbing and I don't know why.

Forthcoming volume on the phenomenology of essences, including a chapter by Dahlstrom on Heidegger’s essentialism. Out in May 2025. #philsky

This is not only an aesthetic preference. Imagine if the tone of science journalism about preprints were more like “This is insane and might be true” as opposed to “Researchers at Authoritative University have commanded nature to reveal the secrets of eggs and cholesterol…”

Schrödinger’s “What Is Life?” is *filled* with sentences about how a regularity in nature is “amazing,” “remarkable,” “wondrous.” I love this mood in (philosophy of) science. The intelligibility & calculability of things in the world is absolutely bonkers. #philsci

To the gentleman at Amorino who said, “Pretty sure Häagen-Dazs is better,” I feel sorry for you, sir.

“In abstract love towards humanity, you almost always love only yourself.” (Dostoevsky, The Idiot) We’re so wrapped up in media-driven, faraway misfortune that we’re now talking about a “duty of care” that can be discharged by an online donation? Meanwhile we’re distant from those nearest us.

Our mama deer’s babies are starting to grow up. We thought she had two girls and a boy…until I noticed the shed antlers on the first guy here!

What actor, living or dead, would play your favorite philosopher in a popular biopic? Definitely J. K. Simmons as Henri Bergson. And the book to adapt into the movie would be @emilyherring.bsky.social’s obviously. #PhilosophyBiopics

This is awesome! Can’t wait to do parkrun in Dublin this summer.

I'm watching a training video for work, and the trainer has 5,280 unread emails in her inbox, shown on-screen. 😱

Interesting CfA for a conference on Arendt and technology in Brussels this October. If you are in continental #philtech this is for you!

I am *this close* to being on top of notes for the books I read in January. So of course @hiphination.bsky.social and Katherine Hayles’ new books just hit the doorstep.
