I’m just this guy, you know? I’m into cooking, woodworking, gardening, birding, cats, reading, road trips, the green revolution in general and EVs (especially), solar, wind, etc in specific. I don’t do signed merch, so please don’t ask.

Any opinions - pro or con - regarding @birdlifeglobal.bsky.social #birding #birdlife …? I’m considering becoming a member of BirdLife International but want to be sure that it’s a trustworthy organisation that’s spending donations/dues wisely.

2024 set a record as the warmest in history, with the average global temperatures 1.6°C above pre-industrial levels. Multiple global records were broken, contributing to extreme events, including floods, heatwaves and wildfires. The impact of human-caused climate change accelerates.

One of our local Common Pheasants figured out how to get to the bird feeder. I have it filled with a homemade mix of unsalted chopped peanuts, sunflower seeds, and unshelled black sunflower seeds. Shot with a Nikon P950, 400 mm, at around 11:15 am on Jan 8th. #Krakow #poland #birds #birding

After a bout of pneumonia and four nights in the Specialist Hospital on Dietla in #Krakow … I’m basically all better.

#Cocktails with friends this evening: a couple of Bellinis, a Penicillin, a raft of Espresso Martinis, a bunch of Mulled Wine (my own recipe), and a Balvenie 15 Madeira. Night’s not yet over, though, because I’ve got some Italian Cider that I want to get into and we’ll see where things go.

Looks like our 9.5 kWp #solar array isn’t quite enough. We are producing ~10 MWh/yr but consuming ~12 MWh/yr. This is down to a combination of our electric car and using the AC units for heating duty through milder periods of winter. We need to eventually get a heat pump… and more solar panels.

#birds #Krakow #pheasants … In the last month or so we’ve been seeing the pheasants almost daily. I love watching them waking up and down the fence line, gliding over the fields, and calling loudly to each other. :) This is one I photo’d in June when it visited our garden.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=YUGr... #uniaoswiecim #hockey in #poland on Sunday night. The first period was a mess but UO woke up in the second. A well-deserved win after the beating we took against Cracovia in October.

#BirdWatching in #Krakow post. We have one or more Eurasian Sparrowhawks that have been going after our local Blue Tits and Great Tits who like to rest in our Himalayan Birch. Everybody has to eat, but I’m not rooting for anyone here because I like all our feathered buddies.

#Woodworking … over the summer I worked on a raised and tilted cat food tray. We have three cats, and use “normal” bowls for their food, so it had to be wide. I wanted a little lip to keep the bowls from sliding around too much. Minwax-like stuff for the tray itself.

#Woodworking … my recently completed storage bin/cart for longer leftovers. Most of my lumber is 2x1, 4x4, 5x5, 2x8, 2x10, 1x10, and 0.8x10… so the little dividers are about 12 cm. This project was also unusual because I started and finished it in a day, including the planning.

It’s #hockey night in Poland, and I’m ready to see Oświeçim knock six bells outta Cracovia. Serious pay back time!

I also do homemade blocks of suet; fortunately these last longer - about two weeks. Corn meal, coarse ground flax seed, sunflower seeds (shelled), chopped peanuts, dried apple bits, and instant oatmeal. I use smalec (lard) to bind it all together.

The Blue Tits and Great Tits in my area (Kraków) have been really cleaning out my feeder. I do a custom mix of chopped peanuts, and shelled and unshelled sunflower seeds. ~450 grams will go in about three days right now.
