Pumping more money into NHS & social care without the capacity to absorb it - enough trained staff, medical colleges, devices, connectivity, beds etc is more likely to lead to increased costs & lower value for money.

Should the NHS & social care prioritise scaling tech or innovative tech & is it possible to have both? Scaling means having more of the same tech tool everywhere but more innovation means more variety.

Raiding tech budgets creates a spiral of decline in NHS & social care tech. Instead of modernising legacy tech & achieving national tech targets. There’s less funding available & new tech takes priority exacerbating the legacy tech cost & problems.

I’m going to be at ReWired and on stage twice in one day! If you’re going to be there please do come say hello and if you want to grab a coffee & have a chat let me know!

About 10-50% of the tech in NHS trusts are legacy tech. The variation & the 50% figure are both astounding!

Digitalised social care providers can spend 30-50% less time on admin & 90% reduction in errors. Lots of opportunities to support staff with existing tech like digital records. beta.digitisingsocialcare.co.uk/news/time-an...

This interesting article asks: when is it ok for LLMs to be used? Not when it crowds out human composition, production & creativity. But what if it also enables leaps in science & medicine. What about then? www.robinsloan.com/lab/is-it-ok...

Came across this description of 90s software, sounds like healthcare IT in 2025! I wonder why tech in the NHS & social care so often falls short of modern expectations…

Everyone making automobiles or plastic or video games is in an industry that didn’t exist in 1900.

It doesn’t matter how quick AI is at doing something if there’s no capacity to do whatever is needed next for the patients care. There’s an absorption & subsequent action rate taken from AI outputs that limits the impact.

“Managing a long term condition or disability requires interaction with more than 40 services across 9 different organisations.” Tech should simplify this but often siloed working replicates the complexity.

Today the Charity AI Taskforce is officially launched! Amazing to see this live. I’m also delighted to join the taskforce steering group! Excited to support how AI can be used by charity’s to achieve social purpose. More info 👇🏾 www.wearecast.org.uk/our-work/how...

The national narrative on innovation in NHS & social care is overly focused on being 1st. But that doesn’t mean being the best, and not being 1st doesn’t mean it’s too late to be the best. It takes sustained effort to become the best & focus beyond the tech.

Incredible how AI in the form of voice tools could make a centuries old technology, the phone, relevant again. Of course that’s assuming people are willing to answer the phone - that dependancy on human behaviour & culture again!

This interesting article describes our public infrastructures of energy generation & transmission, clean water supply, food abundance & distribution and healthcare as the modern day cathedrals. www.thenewatlantis.com/publications...

What aspirations gave rise to copyright in the first place? To promote the progress of Science and useful Arts. Does copyright need to change so AI can be better used for this original purpose?

Economist article on the AI tool Deep Research. Puts forward that the tool: - struggles with data questions that are complex - conforms to common ideas & sources - creates complacency in users I wonder how much is the tool & how much is how it’s used? www.economist.com/finance-and-...

Leaders offer an inspiring vision that people can rally around. But what does that mean in a time of fragmented society plus internet sub cultures driven by algorithms? Is it a leader that is incoherent but their communication gets clipped & targeted through tech so they seemingly speak to all?

So true. But Pritesh, imho challenge is governing bodies do tighten a lot. Information truly don’t say with the pt and with the provider. Potentially nhs app might allow.

Great to see this article of my recent research! @thekingsfund.bsky.social www.digitalhealth.net/2025/01/pati...

Good collection of perspectives on the recent NHS operational planning setting out the focus for the next 12 months.

NHS operational planning has been released. Summary & thoughts on tech aspects: - little AI, focused on existing & mature tech - no surprises it is oriented towards elective recovery reform - aims to improve consistency of digital capability - digital inclusion www.kingsfund.org.uk/insight-and-...
