It was a pretty incredible memorial. He would have hated that it was so incredible. Like a kinda huffy gratitude.

Currently imagining that all comments I'm giving are being given in an over the top Batman voice. It's helping. I also do reward myself sometimes with little treats while I grade. Grade a paper. Get a little treat.

2/23: Holy Lacrimony by @michaeldeforge.bsky.social This book was really incredible. I love DeForge's art and often teach a short comic by him, so I was predisposed to like this but the comedy, sadness, and of course wondrous images really pulled me through this book. Highly recommended.

2/23: Time is a Mother by Ocean Vuong. This was an interesting reading experience because I read it in chunks that gave me very different experiences of the poems. Some washed over me quickly, others I re-read a ton. I want to re-read it really badly just to manage this experience. It was amazing.

It took some time for me like all new things, but its been better the longer I engage. Also: just got your Hemingway book recently! Very excited to read it!

the og person responded and confirmed that they in fact do not believe trump voters should get mail service bc "they don't deserve it." listen, i hate everything they stand for. i'll never forgive 'em. but if you think basic amenities only belong to people you like? congratulations: you're a fascist

Stand on Zanzibar by John Brunner. The original publication of Leaves of Grass by Whitman or at least Song of Myself (though not prose I know)

If you are taking inspiration from movements *please study them.* 20th Century Civil rights organizers were very hard core about security. You should be too. Here's some very basic guidance -- I don't know who made this site, but it checks out -- infosecforactivists.org

There's an excellent podcast I've been on called @mybadpoetrythepod.bsky.social that is part comedy and a big part process. It's really cool to see what poets think are "bad" poems and how they came to decide these things. And I agree about process! Absolutely one of my favorite parts.

2/16: My first audio book of the year finished! The Invention of Surgery by David Schneider This book was a lot (came in at 24ish hrs long) but it made me think about surgery in interesting ways. Not a big fan of how the book ended but I'll probably write about that for my Feb. blog.

2/16: Nineteen Claws and a Black Bird by Agustina Bazterrica I really love these stories and big shout out to Sarah Moses for translating them (and getting me excited about her short story collection too!). They were short, punchy, gorgeous pieces and I taught two of them and just so much yes.
