Seriously, creative folks: Don't be afraid to let people know your stuff is out there for them, or worry that "now is not the time for that." People are stressed and freaked out and looking for the things that will give them a moment of rest and joy. It is EXACTLY the time for what we do. Tell them.

I’ll say it again. What makes this platform different is that it’s moderated. And, The Terms of Service are enforced. Bluesky is not like Twitter The world needs a platform where people who disagree can have a real discussion.

One of Donald Trump’s biggest donors is looking to the Supreme Court to limit tough press coverage of the MAGA leader’s administration.

Don’t mess with @ellenlweintraub.bsky.social

An unelected broligarch and his merry band of unripened incels have hacked our bank accounts, Bird flu is raging, TB is is spreading, planes are falling out of the sky, Trump’s planning Gaz-a-Largo and eggs are more expensive than ever, but at least we’re getting plastic straws back.

"Trump’s race to shred what little is left of the Constitution’s emoluments clause, I’ve suggested, is driven in large part by his personal insolvency."

Real tinpot dictator stuff here

I read Demon Copperhead while on vacation, and I can’t stop thinking about it. The way Barbara Kingsolver shows the layers of injustice and corporate greed that underlie poverty and addiction, all through the eyes of a kid just trying to survive.

It’s time to realize that the number of insured people is not the right metric for the following reasons :

What the fuck is with these people and dogs.

Just sitting here thinking about all those paycheck to paycheck folks who elected a billionaire who put other billionaires in charge of taking shit away from paycheck to paycheck folks, so they can make more billions.

I don’t think a United States senator saying this should be taken lightly

"Disrupt" is code for "Destroy reliable established services so that money previously widely distributed now funnels into a single source." Just like "AI" is code for "Mine the work humans did in the past so we don't have to pay them for their work in the future." That's why VCs like both words.

More than a quarter of America’s evangelical devout actually show little devotion, attending church once per year or less—a startling idea when we consider the outsize role that evangelicals have played in America’s postwar political life. newrepublic.com/article/1883...

Well, I’ve been trying Bluesky out for a week. Very pleased, for the foreseeable time being this will be my primary posting space. Thanks for all the follows.

If you’re ever surprised by how clueless we, as a people, appear to be sometimes, just remember that a scant 25 years ago The Blair Witch project came out and 90% of the population was like “holy shit is this REAL?!”

5 things I believe as a director: 1. Films are rarely better that their scripts. 2. Films are rarely better than their lead performances. 3. Films are as much sound as picture. 4. Films combine primary art forms: painting/photography, theater, literature, music. 5. Films are emotional experiences.
