Someone recently described online discourse as "more ignant than ignorant" and I can't stop thinking about it. Left-leaning political rants, with an interest in code, game design, non-fiction.

[gaming] A game dev describes their reasoning for optimizing out menus. I've never heard anyone complain about menus in JRPGs, but when you look at gameplay side-by-side, it's quite noticeable. www.ign.com/articles/hon...

Scott Galloway's theory of "appealing to young men" included both "irreverence" and "vulnerability". Another lesson in "in-group/out-group" changes the meaning of things.

This reminded me of the #1 rule of human interactions: once you decide you don't like someone, everything about them becomes irredeemable. "AI is going to take human jobs" very quickly turns into "God, why do have BREATH so loud? Can't you just die?"

Pete's rhetoric is so persuasion focused: "The worst part of DJT2 is his betrayal of [people like you]."

I wish we could go back to talking about "young men" as if they were our brothers or nephews...

Before heading off to elementary school, my nephew starts his morning by asking Siri what today's high and low temperatures are (so that he can pick his clothes). Dude, how are things changing so fast?

I wonder what % of Blueskyers are: - Real vs a (literal) bot. - Have any intention of persuading people vs getting validation from being part of a mob. - Are anywhere near as crazy IRL.

This thread is a perfect microcosm of the Abundance discourse. The correct read is seen as being utterly boring. While the misread, in which a more effective state is somehow equivalent to a mass deregulation of industry, drives almost infinite discourse.

It's weird how these kinds of posts always reduces the sense of not belonging to "feeling entitled to women". This "othering". A young man joining the alt-right is no different from them joining a gang. It makes them feel safe. That's it. What they do to STAY in the gang, that's another story.

I feel like scrolling around Bluesky, there's really only three kinds of posts: - Fun, wacky shit about hobbies. - News about society collapsing. - Political Armageddon between people who are really like... 1 word apart in political ideology.

I hadn’t thought of this in exactly these terms, but I think we really have a crisis of accountability in this country (probably broader), where we don’t know who’s accountable for what, nor how to punish them for it, except that we personally aren’t accountable for anything.

it is actually a huge problem that the sweet spot for clout is “personally oppose the D candidate but they win anyway”

[more gaming] I replayed P5R just before starting Metaphor and there's a huge difference in "attention awareness": - Plot beats are significantly shorter. - Boss mechanics are signaled constantly. - The transition between turns is a full screen effect. I wonder how much was style vs user feedback.

Spooky. I've been relatively pro-nuclear for a while (as a supplement to solar), but team "shred the FAA" is not who I wanted in charge.

how the fuck did "medicaid cuts" already get drowned?

Gaming industry tangent: The voice actor's strike has been going for around 6 months. The public was on their side until some VAs went after a "scab" on Twitter (a foreigner working on non-union project). So, now union VAs are being replaced without pushback. Pretty sad stuff.

The existence of "amazon" influencers is really unsettling.

I am often critical of legacy media, but we all owe a debt of gratitude to the 60 Minutes team, Bill Owens and now Wendy McMahon for standing up for what is right while CBS's owner prepares for total surrender and capitulation. www.nytimes.com/2025/05/19/b...

I'm surprised by how much class I'm seeing in the Discover feed, re: Biden's cancer. Joe wasn't perfect, but a boring leader is often what you need.

This is spot on, but it reminds me of something else: people who change the world tend to be optimistic. Keep that in mind, guys.

I've figured it out: Jake Tapper wants to be Secretary of State.

I thought this was going to be a feel good fluff story, but the kid gets carjacked in the middle. Geez.

I wonder if everyone else finds themselves typecasting the various factions on Bluesky. "Huh. So, people who believe [X] don't know what a median is."

The knob in my freezer is frozen.
