That’s only the ones who report. Sadly, spouses of police, military and athletes, often are told they don’t have to work. This puts them in positions where their men know they rely upon them. Due to that, the spouses have a fear that reporting the abuse means a loss of income.

Disability is not a moral failing. Everyone who lives long enough will become disabled eventually. You can’t “try harder” your way out of it. People can’t accept disability is a part of life, so they blame us for being sick as a way to convince themselves it’ll never happen to them. It will.
