I had three apples that had sat around long enough to start to dry out a bit, so we turned them into apple bread. My nephew made the serving board for me. www.recipetineats.com/easy-apple-c...

I called the offices of my elected representatives. Then I emailed VISA to let them know what I think about them partnering with X. It’s all overwhelming and nauseating and there’s some new horror every day, but I’m pigheaded as fuck.

Berbere chicken, adapted from a very old issue of Cooking Light magazine. It’s not an authentic Ethiopian recipe, but it’s good. We mix our own Berbere; we tried it once with Penzey’s, which was good quality, but quite a lot hotter than our hand mixed.

All right. Now I’m poaching chicken breast and making vegetable stock. It’s really satisfying to turn scraps into food. I hope I never need that skill to survive, but I do have it.

I had a very polite conversation along these lines with a staffer at my Indiana state rep’s office. We discussed how having our parents read to us made a big difference in our lives.

I froze my credit with all three bureaus (Experian, Equifax, and TransUnion). I did it by phone in less than 15 minutes total. I don’t know how much protection that’ll be, but it’s something.

I’m exhausted. I’ve made so many calls to my legislators about so many issues that I can’t remember anymore who I’ve called about what. I’m gonna need a spreadsheet.

Today, because apparently I didn’t have enough to be depressed about, I learned about digital fingerprinting.

A South Indian curry! Courtesy of the fresh curry leaves I brought back from a recent trip to the city, I made Chicken Chettinad. This was so good we may make it again in a couple of days. Pairing this curry with an Alsatian Pinot Noir was a bold choice that really paid off.

Dal chicken, or chicken and lentil curry. (It seems prudent right now to pursue cooking lentils.) I really liked the split roasted chickpeas, especially topped with the tadka (oil infused with cumin seeds and onion). Yum! We liked the Prosecco rose a lot, both alone and paired with the food.

Decided to delete my Gmail account from my desktop email client this morning. Carefully moved all the messages I might need to a local email folder. Then deleted… my entire local folder structure.

I had an open package of phyllo left over from the Moroccan pastilla, so I made this quiche with Point Reyes Original blue, butternut squash, caramelized onions, and sage. I’ve made this recipe three times, but this one came out the prettiest. Loved the sparkling Pine Ridge chenin blanc/viognier.

RecipeTinEats calls this quick and easy recipe "Lebanese pizza.” We used lavash, leftover homemade baharat seasoning, and toppings of feta, cilantro, and toasted pistachios. I added a squeeze of lemon and a sprinkle of za’atar. Everybody liked the Sardinian Cannonau with this.

Rogan josh with homemade naan. The California Rhône-style blend was terrific with it, and is locally available. Lamb leg can be hard to find around here, so we buy it when it’s on sale, cut it into chunks, and freeze it to use later. The California Rhône-style blend was terrific with it.

Ok, this is silly. The only thing stopping me from buying an enameled cast iron Dutch oven is that I can’t commit to a color. Eucalyptus or black?

Moroccan pastilla, a chicken pot pie encased in phyllo. The filling contains aromatic spices, chopped dates, and toasted slivered almonds. The medium-dry Gewurtztraminer was great with it. I should have made a salad too, but, well, I didn’t. #FoodSky

All the beautiful cabled sweaters the week that the ShowMeYourKnits hashtag prompt was ‘cables’ suckered me into casting on a cardigan from stash yarn. The pattern is Elsebeth Lavold’s Kara. I’m trying to avoid Sleeve Island by knitting the sleeves first.

Deleted all of my Instagram posts (except the last one saying where to find me) this morning. That was more emotional than I expected.
