Higher education is in crisis. Why was it not a bigger campaign issue for Ontario's political parties during the election? @namshine.bsky.social spoke with Anne Sado (@gbcollege.bsky.social), @alexusherhesa.bsky.social, and Elizabeth Buckner (@oiseuoft.bsky.social ) #onpoli #onpse

It’s a snowy day in Ontario in time for today’s snap election. If you haven’t received your VIC or voter information card, don’t worry, you don’t need it. You do need ID & @ElectionsON website has a list. You can vote until 9pm tonight. Tune into @tvotoday.bsky.social at 8pm for election coverage 🗳️

Walking through union station and alarms going off and lights flashing. No announcements are made. And commuters walking through like nothing is happening. Maybe it’s a fire alarm or maybe it’s more serious but ah 🤪 TBH I’ve never walked faster through that space…trauma keeps you on your toes 🙃

It's been a busy week of events! To top it all off, I'm covering the tech side of the Ontario election from our studio for @chchnews.bsky.social - tune in live Thursday night!

"I think Ford’s continued lead in the polls comes back to... how the campaign has framed the ballot box question. Who do you want to deal with Trump?" — Richard Southern (CityNews) tonight at 8/11pm with @rebeccazandbergen.bsky.social (@cbcradiocanada.bsky.social), and @namshine.bsky.social #onpoli

"We haven't really seen higher education as a long-term investment." — Elizabeth Buckner (@oiseuoft.bsky.social). Are the provincial parties ignoring a crisis? Tonight at 8/11pm with Anne Sado (@gbcollege.bsky.social), @alexusherhesa.bsky.social, and @namshine.bsky.social #onpoli #onpse

International students have been blamed for the housing market & more. But once the federal gov’t introduced caps, the impact, especially in Ontario was felt. As post secondary institutions layoff & cut programs, why isn’t funding an election issue? We discuss tonight @tvotoday.bsky.social

Our thanks to 680News Richard Southern & CBC’s RebeccaZandberg for making time to speak with us when they’re busy covering election. We spoke about how the election is playing out in their cities, voter apathy, which party has run a good campaign & what’s at stake. Tonight 8pm @tvotoday.bsky.social

“”Right here in Ontario, we have 250,000 people waiting on a surgery list. Now, can you imagine if you’ve been waiting for surgery, and the list just continues to grow?” said Sharon Richer from the Ontario Council of Hospital Unions.” www.ctvnews.ca/london/artic...

#TVOTheThread 4th season premieres on March 19th at 730pm on TVO. In the past seasons we’ve covered housing, food insecurity, the loneliness epidemic, bail reform, family doctors shortage in Ontario + more. Grateful to be trusted by the people who tell us their stories. Much love to the Thread team❤️

A lot happening right now. Hope you can get some time to go outside, breathe in some fresh air and to move your body. A 30 minute walk to the Bluffs and Lake Ontario, my favourite place, is the perfect way to destress. All of that sand covered with snow 😍😍 #ScarboroughBluffs

“…attempt to tackle the problem of dwindling trust in politics by modern day legislative force. Those championing the changes refer to how the deliberate rise in campaigns of misinformation, by those of all political persuasions, have in some instances led to electoral victories overseas.”

The figures, released by Elections Ontario on Monday morning, mark a change from previous provincial elections:…Due to the snap election this year, 678,789 voters cast their ballot over three days (Feb. 20, 21 and 22) of advance voting – a turnout of 6.14 per cent. globalnews.ca/news/1103214...

“At our last count, around 40 per cent of our homeless population is actually employed,” said Kaytor. “So, these are people with jobs who simply cannot afford the cost of rent in the private market.” #OnPoli #OntarioElection www.theifp.ca/politics/pro...

Independent analysis by The Local found at least 31 of 45 approved school projects appeared to be in Conservative ridings. And not a single project in the TDSB, the biggest board with a massive repair backlog. thelocal.to/ontario-educ...

Today is the last day for advance voting for Ontario’s Feb 27th snap election this Thursday. A lot of snow on sidewalks. Asked for photo ID + my voter information card (but you don’t need it) asked to sign a form so I can’t vote again. Poll station busy. Took less than 10 mins. Ps excuse my puffing😅

The ‘Gulf of America’ feud is about something bigger: Trump wants to control the media | Margaret Sullivan

Breaking News: President Trump fired the country’s senior military officer, a role that traditionally stays in place as administrations change.

I hung onto every single word. Sir Alex Younger articulates what’s happening right now, in a way no one else has been able to do. Worth a watch. This is why public broadcasting is so important.

Walking or driving in Toronto is so bad with all of the snow piles. I can’t even imagine what it’s like outside the GTHA. With the Feb 27th snap election, a few days away, the media should be amplifying this: if you have accessibility needs, you can request a home visit to vote. Deadline is Feb 26.

We are a week away from Ontario’s snap election which takes place next Thursday on Feb 27th. You can vote early from Feb 20th to the 22nd. To vote, you need to be 18 or older, a Canadian citizen and be a resident of Ontario. If you don’t have a VIC, don’t worry, you only need ID with your address.

Thank you so much @lanrickbennett.bsky.social I’m in tears reading this thread. I worked really hard to get into journalism & my northstar has always been to be in service to the public. This industry is lonely and can be so cutthroat. Something I’m not. Thank you for seeing me & my intentions 🙏

What can the town of Dresden, Ont. teach us about forgotten Black history? @namshine.bsky.social spoke with Marie Carter, author of "In the Light of Dawn: The History and Legacy of a Black Canadian Community," and Afua Cooper (@utsc.bsky.social) #blackhistorymonth

“The practice involves real estate companies using programs that track what competitors are charging for rent and leases. An American antitrust lawsuit alleges companies are using this software to collude and artificially inflate rents” toronto.citynews.ca/2025/02/17/c...

(1/4) Recent layoffs of federal workers has a disproportionate impact on Native Americans, but is receiving almost no media attention. In Indian Health Services, which provides healthcare to 2.8 mil NAs, 2,200 people were laid off, including 1,400 who provide direct patient care.

Hey Ontarians, let’s get out to the ballot boxes in record numbers! 🗳️☑️

Tonight is the 2nd of 2 debates in lead up to Ontario’s snap election on Feb 27th. The last election in 2022 had the lowest voter turnout. The last time an election was held in February? 1883. I wrote about if this will impact turnout @tvotoday.bsky.social amp.tvo.org/article/opin...

What to do in the middle of a snowstorm? Well, we in Canada go for a walk by the beach, while others are surfing or going for a jog😆 We’re built different 💪😅🇨🇦🇨🇦 #HappyFlagDay 🇨🇦

"The last segregated school in Ontario closed in 1964." — segregation in education is not a relic of the distant past explains Afua Cooper (@utsc.bsky.social), tonight at 8/11pm with "In the Light of Dawn" author Marie Carter and @namshine.bsky.social #blackhistorymonth #onted

Want a reason to vote? How about voting for a candidate who supports proportional representation? No more false majorities—no more worrying about wasted votes or strategic voting. Countries with PR have much higher voter turnout than we do. We can be like them too.

Over the past few election cycles, we’ve become very good at blaming young people and the electorate for not being civically minded, but the blame is never placed at the feet of the very same group of people who benefit from voter apathy: politicians. So I wrote it @tvotoday.bsky.social

Schools are closed and pretty much everything else after a snowstorm but Toronto garbage collectors are hard at work. This truck got stuck on our street. Some people walked by filming. We asked if we could help & offered them some salt. It worked! Please offer to help & thanks to all working today🙏

“For now, the best we can do is send a message to the White House." Toronto’s mayor takes a dig at Trump, and Musk, by ending license subsidies for new Tesla owners using their vehicles for hire.
