Terrible timing. Poor explanation. HRW's board says it has replaced Tirana Hassan as ED. The human rights community needs leaders like Tirana, and the world needs a strong HRW www.hrw.org/news/2025/02...

Britons now more likely to support defence of *Romania* than the United States. Put that in your pipes and smoke it, Hannan-style Anglospherists.

So many hilarious examples of how this thinking could be applied to the UK... Cameron should have considered a coalition with the Labour Party in 2010? The SNP should be in coalition with the Tories in Holyrood?

What Musk's intervention demonstrates is that he (and his people) cannot imagine why people fight in wars. Everything is capitalism for these people and that's why they cannot imagine a world beyond transactional relationships. People fight and die for a lot more beyond money.

As a manager all I can see is massive untold bureaucracy. Can you imagine the poor sod who has to read these emails. Holy shit.

Just looking at the latest YouGov poll - the Tories are on 9% with people under 50. It is not clear to me how this helps with that problem.

Nate's the world's best argument that being able to use statistical techniques others developed doesn't make you insightful. This is a moronic take.

This is utterly sub-standard reporting. It is free advertising for Nazis - effectively a press release. This is dangerously irresponsible stuff.

Saying now so that I can tap the sign; Trump is not a feminist. He & his friends hate feminism, hate bodily autonomy (specifically abortion rights), hate female emancipation. And those who celebrate his anti-trans positions are enabling the far right and anti-cis women policies all day long.

I've read this report and a lot of the commentary and I have a lot of thoughts. Here are a few; 🧵

You have to admit it, this is very very funny. "That we will turn our backs on the war's West against itself." CENSOR THAT.

I’m not sure the world has seen a genuine supervillain until 2025. Of course there’ve been countless monsters: hitler, Stalin, pol pot. But a real life figure who fits the Gotham/Metropolis model. Plutocrat bigwig who is actually deeply evil & wants to run the world for cartoonishly stupid reasons.

Incredible stuff in here: They ID'ed him, in part, by going to court hearings and watching him post

Interim report out today from the Sentencing Review is bang on – not often you get the chance to say that! Prison population has risen because of "inconsistent, ill-considered and knee jerk sentencing reform implemented by successive governments". www.gov.uk/government/p...

A few thoughts about this article by Tim Shipman on Lord Hermer. www.thetimes.com/uk/politics/...

Looking at everyone saying "ACTUALLY it wasn't a Nazi salute" like

Watching the collapse of the United States of America in real time is a Thing. Doing it on Bluesky is irony?

This is so brilliant, primarily for the fact that it establishes Succession as a documentary on the Murdochs... www.theatlantic.com/magazine/arc...

"Everything is a conspiracy when you don’t know how anything works," what a phrase

This is a good thread. Politics and its coverage has become way, WAY too Election Pilled. In the UK barely a week passed after Labour being elected by a landslide before commentators, and very clearly the government itself, became almost totally fixated on the dynamics of the next election.

EXC: Top lawyer and Mauritius counsel Philippe Sands condemns Kemi Badenoch's recent comments about "North London lawyers" He told me they were "understood to be a trope of a most unfortunate kind" aimed at Jewish lawyers. www.politico.eu/article/uk-b...

I mostly work from home and so do most of my team. We all work very hard and if anything I worry we're working too much because there is no distinction between work and no work when at home. If you worry about people working from home; you're a shit manager. It has NOTHING to do with presenteeism.

The projection is strong.

The American Bar Association has just called upon every attorney, regardless of their political views, to join them & stand up for the rule of law & at minimum insist that our government "follow the law." Every lawyer has an ethical responsibility to do so. www.americanbar.org/news/abanews...

One thing I think we need to grapple with more is how social conservative and fiscal conservative grievances have been collapsed in the conservative mind into the feminization of bureaucracy and regulation. Any rules or enforcement mechanisms—and administrative state itself—are all cast as women.

Anyone on the left who still think Greenwald, Wikileaks, Declassified and Grayzone are on the good side needs to look at how they have fed and amplified far right attacks on “woke” USAID

This is why I’ve railed against AI for years, as I’ve been seeing my students’ abilities to create, critically think, analyze, weigh evidence, write analytically all wither away in this zombification trend. They’re creating the permanent underclass.
