Tis the time’s plague when madmen lead the blind.

Lunch at Hing Kee Restaurant in Chicago’s Chinatown: fish ball noodle soup and soup dumplings. Kung Hee Fatt Choy, everyone!

Gonna finish this excellent Badger Club Amber and hit the slopes. I’m told it’s packed powder and very fast. Pray for my knees.

The Bolingbrook Ikea has a big mural with a fanciful depiction of the Midwest. This weird dude was hanging out near Traverse City, MI. Any ideas?

It’s that extra .3 degrees that makes it tolerable outside. Otherwise, I might have to put on a coat.

Having my father’s bible restored at a bookbinder shop in Chicago. Fascinated by the tools - They’re still being used and they look many, many years old.

Got a bread-making lesson from my son. Best -lookin’ loaf I’ve ever made. Thanks, kid.

Happy New Year from the Dave & Northwestern Railroad!

Foggy & drizzly at Cascade Mtn. Today. But a good time was had by my soggy crew. We’re heading home for pizza & possibly adult beverages.

And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, ”Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.” Peace and good will, everyone. Peace and good will. Good night.

I actually ate this — well, half of it. A “Two-Hand” Korean corn dog. Just way too many conflicting, very strong flavors. 2/10. Maybe I got the wrong thing for my 1st visit.

After years of making pizza from scratch to eat with my Saturday night horror movie, my pizza knife broke. I blame Svengoolie. J’accuse!

I do love to travel — but coming home, getting into my own bed and pulling the comforter up under my chin: Aaaaaaaah. It’s almost the best part of any trip.

Skiing at Winter Park for the last few days with Chicago’s Sanctuary Ski Club. I’ve had an absolute hoot with a great bunch of folks … and the views! But I am *wiped out* tired now and ready to go home.

New level of bathroom difficulty unlocked: tour bus toilet while doing switchbacks in the Colorado mountains.

I’m going skiing with the club! Just arrived in Denver en route to Winter Park. This is the famous “Devil Horse” sculpture at DEN. The sculptor was killed during its construction when part of it fell on him.

Reached my minimum acceptable bicycling temperature today (50F), So I went for a 10-mile spin along the DuPage River Trail.

Opening weekend at Wisconsin’s Cascade Mountain. Snow is a bit slushy — it's 50F after two weeks of perfect snow-making temps — and pretty well worked over. But the hill is surprisingly uncrowded for opening weekend. Fun is being had by all, starting with me.

Playing with the Lionel train set before the grandkids show up.

@naperville.bsky.social So, I’ll start. Traverso’s restaurant in Naperville is a neighborhood Italian joint. Great pizza! My wife likes the chicken marsala - and she’s picky. Tonight I had sausage ravioli, which was terrific. Never had a bad meal here. Good service, comfy atmosphere.

Traverso’s in Naperville, IL. A old-style, neighborhood Italian family restaurant. Mmmwaaah.

Chicago Wolves tie it up 1–1. Skates approves. Dave in happy place.

Current book: “Project Hail Mary” by Andy Weir (“The Martian”). I groaned when the aliens appeared. But I’ve grown to like the interaction, and by extension the novel so far. (Note: I’m a hard science guy, having worked in a US gov’t laboratory for 30 years. I like this author’s technical chops.)

Happy challa-days! Braiding was a bit random, but I’m proud of it. Very tasty, too.

Hey, the Bears got one more touchdown than I thought they’d get, which was none.

I strongly suspect that Trump will do a Ferdinand Marcos and steal much of the money from the U.S. treasury. Elongated Muskrat will suck up the rest. In four years there may not be a solvent U.S. citizen outside of the Hamptons. I would really love to be wrong.

@napervilledad.bsky.social Come on Naperville dad let’s hear from ya!

Every year I swear I’ll never bowl in a league again. So tonight I rolled a 134, 145 and 162 (!). My team won 3 out of four points, we’re in first place and I swear I’m not gonna do this again next year.

Snowing in Naperville. Sigh. I guess summer’s over.

Bald Knob Cross of Peace, near Alto Pass, Ill.

This is not going to end well for a few cicadas.

I’m a bit late to the party, but it took a while to get home from Arkansas and download the images from my camera.

So, can the chicken write its name?

Cherry trees in full glory at DC’s Tidal Pool yesterday. Wow.

And how was your evening? Mine was pretty pleasant, even if it was uninterrupted by fish.

Welp. I sure showed that soda can who’s the boss ‘round these parts.

Odie, I feel ya. @Kerbal Space Program @Odysseus moon lander

Me personally, I’d slow down even a little more.

What fresh tipping-culture hell is this?

What could possibly go wrong?
