How do I discover if I still like the things I’ve been doing for most of my adult life? With reading lists that make no sense, recipes I’m not sure I want to make, trips to places I’m afraid to go to alone, and other duties as assigned. 📚🥘🚗🌋🤩

Getting Started

So I’ve worked my way through 48 books on the NPR books we love list from 2013 and I’m worried it’s starting to feel like a job. I haven’t read all 48 books but I’ve looked at them and read 14 of them and have 3 floating around the house I can’t seem to finish. ☹️📚💙

I went to see Becoming Led Zeppelin with my son and he asked why we had to go watch a movie that was mostly music and I said, “Because I can’t get it to sound like this at home.” Zeppelin was my brother’s favorite and I didn’t expect to cry through the first song but y’know, feelings #LedZeppelin

A cup of tea and a slice of apple spice cake I made yesterday to go with The Alchemists (published in 2013 from my NPR reading list challenge) about the heads of 3 central banks and how they dealt with the financial meltdown. #booksky 📚💙

The rules for my latest reading challenge, which I thought up standing in line at the store: 1. books come from 2013 NPR books we love list 2. come from my local library and be in physical book format 3. no need to finish a book because there are 205 on the list and I am not immortal #booksky 📚💙

Yesterday we protested and most people cheered and clapped and some people glared. It’s a start.

I’m going to go protest tomorrow. I honestly dont know if it will matter but sitting at home trying to avoid reading the news isnt helping anymore. As my dear departed mother used to say, “Go find something to do.” mobilize.us/s/NQAKEy

My past inability to stick with a reading challenge won’t stop me from launching my most deranged reading challenge yet! It involves an NPR best books of 2013 list, my library card, and a short set of rules I made up while waiting in line at the store.

Reading challenges are my version of New Year’s resolutions. I spend a lot of time thinking them up, a few weeks (days) following them, and then I just fall back into whatever disordered process I had going in the first place.
