He made a mistake by admitting that he is guilty. Trump will never pardon him.

A majority of voters voted for Trump, so the problem is not just Trump alone. Look at the UK. Reform UK will again get a large share of votes. Just unbelievable.

Maybe high is bad?

Great explainer on trade deficits and what they mean in the long run for the US. Trump applies the shock therapy with his tariff blunders. Probably not the best way, but might they work? www.grumpy-economist.com/p/tariffs-sa...

China, Japan, and South Korea agree to “closely cooperate” in response to U.S. tariffs

Crazy times

How dumb was the methodology of Trump's "reciprocal" tariffs? Well, Switzerland now faces a 31% rate simply because of a late-2024 surge in US gold imports. If the new US tariff regime had been calculated using 2023 data then Swiss imports would only face an 18.7% levy. www.ft.com/content/9072...

We heard anecdotally that Canadians weren’t visiting the states, now we have the data. A massive, shocking drop.

Now Musk has learned his lesson. If he wants to buy an election, he'll do it the old-fashioned way, through dark money PACs that are impossible to trace to any single donor.

Many years ago, I thought there would be massive social ramifications of the large and increasing gender divide in educational attainment. Some suggestions then: - educated men a scarce commodity ✅ - ⬆️ assortive mating - ⬇️ marriage rates - change in social mores around (single motherhood)

Ahead of Trump’s “tariff day” April 2, let me reiterate a basic fact. Value added tax systems do not distort trade. European consumers pay VAT US consumers pay sales taxes End of story A 🧵to make this painfully obvious if the above is not clear 1/

Emphasis on "has ever had"

If you are frightened by the US switching from global policeman to bad actor, wait for a remilitarised Europe to do that. That's going to be really ugly.

All you need to know about Twitter

I spoke with Rachel Cohen, the Skadden Arps associate whose resignation letter went viral. Her message for those in positions of power who are still staying mum: “Their silence is not only not going to protect them, it is going to kill people.” www.nbcnews.com/politics/tru...

Funny that America First might actually turn into Europe First and America Last.

Wow, how can this be allowed to happen. Playing with people's lives as if it's just a game.

I once read somewhere that one of the actual purposes of NATO, and US dominance of NATO, was to keep defence spending in Europe and especially in Germany artificially down. I think that makes sense. A rearmed Europe with its political fragmentation is not a great prospect for the future.

Most obvious money waste by the US govt is easily space exploration. Not sure why DOGE is not cutting that hmm

To destroy a country, you need to destroy its institutions, its economy, its reputation in the world, its relationships with allies, and strengthen its enemies. Trump is doing all of this.

My personal experience with LLMs is so and so. They are useful to get basic infos about a topic and sometimes even deeper knowledge if the topic has certain constraints (like no numbers involved). Its also useful for rephrasing and translating. But almost as often the output is false or not useful.

Smart move by Trump, now the US taxpayer shoulders the bill and the prisoners get a nice upgrade in accomodation.
