Draws are boring. #epl

Since Musk has been crowing about his AI, I thought I'd test it out. "Draw John Lennon's head on the body of a gecko." Yep, you can't argue with that.

They can’t park the bus

"You're not my surreal Dad!"

That worked out pretty okay.

If these bozos just sacked off the Xmas bonus altogether, they'd have been able to afford a far better player costing £25.2 million instead. I'm sure that's not lost on Jim.

Evergreen writing tip from John Swartzwelder (creator of a tons of classic The Simpsons episodes, plus some very funny novels). This is from a rare interview, by Mike Sacks of The New Yorker, 2001. www.newyorker.com/culture/the-...

In a sentence never before uttered by humans, I am delighted to share that an alligator stole my conservation instructor’s hat by jauntily walking into the water while wearing it 🐊

Very interesting from Klein

Imagining a parallel universe where Apprentice presenter Alan Sugar runs Britain with the shadow of tech bro Clive Sinclair looming over him.

Iraola with nine injuries and producing a performance like that.

I've always loved the fact that the word 'sneeze' is the result of a historical accident. The original form, in the Middle Ages, was 'fnese', but someone mistook the 'f' for the long medieval 's' and wrote down 'sn-' instead. Fneezing sounds much more like a proper, nasal sneeze.

That subs bench really is something else. #afcb

The man in the automated message on the Manchester Civil Justice Centre phone number genuinely sounds unhinged. It only gets worse the longer you listen. Just wait for the bit about bailiffs. Who approved this???

Oh, very good.

Solanke's own goal means he now has to recreate a tragic anime death

Great stat from @mikebotto.bsky.social on the other place: For over 70 minutes tonight, Bournemouth had a bench to call on with less than an hour of Premier League experience between them. #afcb

Recently a friend gave me the most incredible gift I have ever received. Would you like to see it? OF COURSE. Here is the tube map... IN CROSS STITCH. It takes my breath away that anyone could create this, let alone create it for me. She's astonishing.

This German meme was just brought to my attention and I feel obligated to reshare it here Frohe Weihnachten

Could we all please take a moment to thank the men & women responsible for these absolute triumphs. British industry & innovation at their very finest.

The BBC appears to be taking its MasterChef PR strategy to new extremes

A Swansea University study, published in the American Journal of Human Biology, has shown that if your ring finger is longer than your index finger, you're more likely to love alcohol. [Me at the Xmas party after one too many: "My fingers made me do it."]

My friend Rob (not yet of this parish) sent me these stark photos of Bill Shankly's birthplace, the abandoned mining village of Glenbuck. Not a single building left.

People are often surprised when I tell them this: both Twitter and Facebook/insta/threads are now specifically engineered to downgrade, hide, suppress real journalism. If this platform is different, that's a huge change

I always check both ends of my spaghetti before eating so I don't accidentally kiss a dog.

It has snowed in Chicago and YOU KNOW WHAT THAT MEANS! Time to remind everyone that we light our train tracks on fire to prevent the switches from freezing.

bluesky after the other one is like being a fish and having your fishtank water finally changed after about a decade of murk and black mold etc, so thanks for that 🙂

San Marino improving enough to top their group and win promotion pretty much justifies the Nations League’s invention on its own - tremendous story.

Weird how the people who make their money out of you being permanently mad on social media seem to want to come on here and tell you it’s bad if you don’t want to be permanently mad on social media.

My old boss did a lot of stupid things, like, proper crazy stuff, but the funniest was when he was on the roof of our shop and looked like he was about to leap the 6-foot gap to the roof of the neighbouring building. I shouted, "Jim, don't be stupid, there's no way you'll make that jump!"

Now you’re talking. A yard of Party Rings. See you in hospital.

Researching this book has been a huge amount of fun. This morning's highlight is this interview with Kevin Keegan, published shortly before he hosted the 2021 Meat Management Industry Awards. meatmanagement.com/news/simply-...

Tip for new BlueSky users: the "nuclear" block. Blocking a user here is far more effective than it ever was on Twitter. It rips out all connection to replies, quotes, everything. They are erased from your life. It's beautiful and I recommend using it generously.

I regret to inform you all that it appears to getting dark outside. Blame Chris Martin's great-great-grandfather. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William...

Marvellous bit of old Fleet Street action in Ben Macintyre’s new book on the Iranian Embassy siege.

Morning my loves. I've been ill for about the first time in five years this week, but there ain't no subs bench when you're me. So here's a piece about parenting and sickness. unexpecteddelirium.substack.com/p/there-is-n...
