LA Times: Mass firings across NOAA and National Weather Service ignite fury among scientists worldwide "As federal job eliminations struck the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the National Weather Service on Thursday, scientists and environmental advocates denounced the cuts […]

So powerful - brilliant and hits you like a gut punch. Buy it, read it.

Looking at the Germany election map results. There’s another wall now.

If you are as outraged as I am about the unilateral suspension of admissions at York U. Please write the president and dean. An abdication of the mission of a university. www.thestar.com/news/gta/yor...

Have been telling historian friends about this - archives at risk.

So much suppression from the so called western defenders of democracy and free speech

Friend sent this to me and I just had to

I live in an Albertan city where no one can source Mexican Coca Cola. Hardest drink to find as they are all snapped up. Tons of US Coca-Cola around.

If you’re going to watch the movie “Maria” - which is kinda brilliantly conceived - and on Maria Callas, ensure you have an opera aficionado to watch with you (as I do). They will explain the soundtrack, opera, aria, and chorus - and what it all means in the movie narrative.

Those who are saying that the United States is now a lawless state have not been paying attention. Supporting the lawless Israel as it committed genocide is only the most recent example. Europeans are only shocked that this lawlessness is now being applied to them.

We are doing our best - buying anything but American. For Canadians, the Asian grocery stores like T & T make it clear where all veg and fruits come from. Really surprising to see Mangosteens from Mexico.

Vilifying DEI turns real people into targets. This is stochastic terrorism. www.cbsnews.com/losangeles/n...

My dog would do it if she could but she’s polite and often stares at the food on the table until I give some to her.

Like JD Vance she’s secure in knowing her partner and children will be fine.

There are terrible things in the world but I am distraught by my soup dumpling (xiao long bao) fail today. All the soup splashing on my sweater after thinking I had mastered the art of eating soup dumplings elegantly.

Be like Spain - even Canada has taken up the anti-immigration rhetoric. www.theguardian.com/world/2025/f...

This is necessary reading regarding the removal of Khaled Sabsabi from representing Australia at the Venice Biennale. A cowardly and disgusting decision by Creative Australia. Please follow the thread.

The Israeli army forced an 80-year-old Palestinian man to act as a human shield in Gaza by tying an explosive cord around his neck before shooting him and his wife, according to the Israeli outlet The Hottest Place in Hell

I Love Dishoom - and when I’m back in London, I head there (several locations) for one of my favourite dishes: Chilli Toast. Cocktails and brilliant food - and a fab atmosphere especially the Kensington location.

Lolz! The boos at the Canada -US hockey game tonight. Well done Canada fans at Bell Centre in Montreal.

“Maintaining the veneer of free speech protects the university from accountability while it continues all of its practices of investments and weapons manufacturers, practices of perpetrating displacement here on the South Side and in Palestine, and its practices of surveillance,”

Everything is horrible but let us celebrate Marshall Allen who at the age of 100 releases New Dawn. daily.bandcamp.com/album-of-the...

One institutional betrayal after another...this time, of Khaled Sabsabi Cowardly and disgraceful capitulation to political pressure from Creative Australia

“An outrageous overreach that threatens the very foundation of independent arts funding.” National Association for the Visual Arts comes out swinging after Khaled Sabsabi was dumped as Australia’s artist for the 2026 Venice Biennale.

I’m already very exhausted by America.

Goodbye NATO.

I saw the Movie. Someone had to tunnel in and fix it.

Brilliant writing from Noura Erakat. www.bostonreview.net/articles/the...

Watched a bit of the half-time show but basically Kendrick’s semiotic subversion would not be understood. The moment that caught the world’s eye was the Palestinian and Sudan flag. The rest was mere bread and circus to the distracted masses.

Monoversity, Inequity, Exclusion

Friday

DOGE is reportedly threatening NOAA with massive staff and budget cuts. NOAA houses the National Weather Service and National Hurricane Center, which produce forecasts and warn people about storms. This attack on public safety is ripped straight from the pages of Project 2025.

GIVE ME GREGGS!!!!!

Omg - this is terrible news.

Call me crazy but any country where a musical award event features an abusive psychopath like Kanye West showing off his very unclad near naked "wife" who looked fearful and terrified most of the time - is very much at the self-destruction phase.

We worked for months with USAID to build an $85,000,000 project to end TB in two regions of the Philippines. The project is funded by private money, the Philippine government, and matching USAID funds. It could provide a blueprint for eliminating TB worldwide--except it's...not happening.

1/ For the people who are asking: “Where are the protests?!” There have been many! Much of them organized by immigrants rights groups and leftists. Here’s a thread of some I have found, or know people who have attended. Feel free to add your own.

Vive le Canada!

Desperately wishing we can buy Timah Whiskey here (an acquired taste) while swearing never to touch or buy American right now.
