One more thing on this: if you need their IRS data to find them and deport them, you are saying you can't find them because they're not in your system any other way. Which means you're admitting they're not criminals, they're working, and they're paying taxes, and you want to get rid of them anyway.

"User-hostile design" isn't just ads and hard-to-find cancel buttons. App devs have learned they don't profit from adding features users say they want—they make money by analyzing usage patterns, then adding features to maximize "engagement" (YOUR time/energy spent in the app). That's user-hostile.

1/ Indirect costs, overhead and grants - let's talk about it. When the government issues a grant to an NGO or university to deliver some aid, or undertake some research, it wants to ensure value for money. The funds being used are taxpayer dollars and so it's important they're used well.
