The trouble with trying to find a decent word for the superhero-kind-of-comic is that it’s not actually limited to superheroes. Sgt Rock, All-Star Western, House of Mystery, Sandman, The Invisibles, Saga, Queen & Country, etc etc etc are that kind of comic too. It’s also not a question of quality.

Funny how people used to use “graphic novel” to distinguish things like Maus, From Hell, Blankets, Ghost World, Black Hole, etc from monthly superhero comics, but then the superhero people, in their infinite insecurity, insisted on being called graphic novels, so now we have “literary graphic novel”

To be perfectly honest, I don’t think the argument that trans women’s tendency towards self-infantilization is due to not having had a cis childhood. It doesn’t ring true to me. I think it has a lot more to do with questions of role and responsibility and the weight of agency.
