And whether you're drawn to gospel music or church music or honky-tonk music, it informs your character and it informs your talent. -Bruce Springsteen

Just a casual reminder that no body deserves war. Nobody deserves bombs. There is always another way. It takes time to slow down and be in peace, in the heart. Letting go of all resistance to conflict. If all our politicians could meditate, three times a day this week? If we allow them to.

Working on a sonnet about an old hold receipt found in the copy of Charles Wright's Oblivion Banjo (2019) I borrowed from the library at UNB Saint John. Here's the poem it was covering.

11th June is St. Barnabas Day, once celebrated with garlands of roses, woodruff and lavender twined around statues and candles in medieval churches. This year it falls on June’s #FullMoon, known in Europe as the Rose Moon, when roses are their most fragrant & fair. #RoseWednesday

This afternoon, I hosted a birdsong workshop in Wild Maple Field. Singing like the birds, a bit of ID, and creating fun music. It was really fun, and we may run one again soon.

An English idiom about facing the consequences of one’s actions is “you made your bed, now lie in it.” In Italian, an equivalent phrase is hai voluto la bicicletta? Adesso pedala! It means “you wanted the bicycle? Now pedal it!”

40 years ago today, I wrote this piece. It was one of my first published compositions. This afternoon, for old time's sake, I listened, played and recorded it again. Hopefully, It'll be a gentle introduction to your weekend. Have a listen, and a nice weekend. :) stevecarter.com/latest/2025G...

Beautiful welldressings for Wirksworth's carnival and Maytime celebrations.

"'Tis like the birthday of the world, When earth was born in bloom; The light is made of many dyes, The air is all perfume: There's crimson buds, and white and blue, The very rainbow showers Have turned to blossoms where they fell, And sown the earth with flowers." - Thomas Hood

Looking lovely and very stately in Matlock, even if the new resin paths do make the whole town smell of disinfectant.

This colourised picture of the Statue of Liberty in 1886 (in Paris before being transported to the US) shows the copper in its original unoxidised state. The chart shows how long it took to turn green.

Ben of Ben & Jerry’s *arrested* after confronting RFK Jr. & Congress: "They need to let food into Gaza. They need to let food to starving kids! Congress is paying to bomb poor kids in Gaza, and paying for it by kicking poor kids off Medicaid in the US!"

Thank you for all my birthday messages today . Megs , the poods and I have hijacked a canal boat in search for some wildlife ! We have finished rehearsals for our concert tomorrow afternoon in Derby, in memoriam and donations in aid of Derbyshire Refugee Solidarity. All are welcome. This is perhaps the third time we have sung Jonathan Dove's "Ring Out Wild Bells", from the Tennyson, and it is incredibly rousing!

Thou winged blossom, liberated thing, What secret tie binds thee to other flowers, Still held within the garden's fostering? Will they too soar with the completed hours, Take flight, and be like thee Irrevocably free, Hovering at will o'er their parental bowers? -Thomas Wentworth Higginson
