🔥 Hot off the press! 🔥 Are preprints reshaping journal publishing—or being absorbed into it? Our new paper in JDoc examines the dynamics at play! 👀 With @juancommander.scholcommlab.ca, @stephenpinfield.bsky.social, @fleerackers.bsky.social, & Irene Pasquetto 📖 doi.org/10.1108/JD-0... (1/🧵)

haven't seen anyone report this yet: you can no longer search for the terms "diversity", "equity", "inclusion", or "dei" on the nih website - you get redirected back to the homepage

This reminds me of James C. Scott: to govern is to simplify. States impose rigid categories to make societies ‘legible’ and easier to control—but legibility distorts reality. When reality resists, power rewrites the rules to force compliance. AI doesn’t escape this logic; it automates it.

'The group is buying up long-standing publications and converting them into fast-money machines by increasing the price they charge researchers for publishing, in addition to increasing the number of studies published with little regard to their quality.' english.elpais.com/science-tech...

Great summary of recent research on public perceptions of preprints, featuring a cool new paper by @fleerackers.bsky.social et al. 📰 Goes beyond our earlier work by also using qualitative methods, revealing very interesting (and worrying) results. Insightful read! www.science.org/content/arti...

When folks ask what successful #DiamondOpenAccess can look like, I always point to Latin America and it's 25+ yr history of institutionally sponsored, scholar led #openaccess (which is increasingly threatened by the commercialization of academic publishing). Kudos to @scielo.org Redalyc AmeliCA

A pungent piece of writing about the limitations of the misinfo/disinfo paradigm. And as @amnadler.bsky.social said, "Amen!"

📢 We are pleased to announce a #postdoctoral position at #LISIS (Interdisciplinary Laboratory for Science, Innovations, and Societies), Paris, to work on the #ROR² project focused on #OpenScience and #Research_Integrity. ℹ️ For more details, please see: ror2.hypotheses.org/247

Good to see this thoughtful new document from @oaspa.bsky.social on "(In)equity in open access: OASPA's recommended practices on financial and workflow barriers" zenodo.org/records/1426...

As preprint & PRC models grow, selective indexing risks creating new hierarchies where only research meeting traditional quality thresholds is visible and recognized. How do we design a system where openness truly levels the field instead of maintaining old power structures? #OpenScience #ScholComm
