Please read and share. But especially share with folks that might not realize how critical Section 504 is to so many people. I tried to write a simple clear explanation at the break. Gift link here: www.startribune.com/why-are-repu...

My greatest professional failing is that I do not keep enough snacks in my desk.

Setting aside the outright cruelty and the short term wastefulness, the cancellation of education programs is galactically stupid. Withholding educational opportunities (especially for students w/ disabilities) will become a generational drag on the economy.

Yes! - "It’s authoritarian, anti-union, anti-free speech, and a cowardly display of the majority party’s inability to defend its beliefs in the marketplace of ideas unless it can control the entire market"

If they’re willing to cut funding for the fight against cancer, why would anyone believe their promises about keeping Title I funding or IDEA programs for special needs kids?

Ohio friends, please call your state reps and tell them to vote against this: ☎️ at reps.fyi

Up to 169 IES contracts have been canceled, threatening critical education research. This is a major setback for educators & children with disabilities who rely on evidence-based practices. Urge Congress to protect IES research! #4SpecialEducation exceptionalchildren.org/takeaction?v...

Take a moment and read this ncld.org/gutting-spec...

Another great educational resource produced with help from IES.

The Council for Exceptional Children provides a easy way to express your dissatisfaction to your rep and senators: exceptionalchildren.org/takeaction?v...

It’s been a long, tough day, again. Time for something light. Your favorite academic conference now requires presenters to have walk up music. What’s your song?

All practice guides are in the public domain. Just in case... osf.io/dk4r5/

One of my favorite IES products are Practice Guides. Imagine taking a look at an evidence-based guide for teachers to better support students and concluding "let's stop making these." Here's a link to a copy since the IES site may not exist when you read this: drive.google.com/file/d/1plrK...

Here's why your education friends had a real rough one today. It's... it's the entire education data collection apparatus of the United States. www.edweek.org/policy-polit...

IES was established by the Education Sciences Reform Act of 2002. The functions of IES are specified by this law, which was signed by George W. Bush. www.edweek.org/policy-polit...

Everything is still up on the website for now, but it may not be for long. If you any documents from IES I suggest you download them right now.

Go ahead everyone. Make fun of Ohio all you want. We totally deserve it. It is no longer a place that should be taken seriously. www.cleveland.com/news/2025/02...

Slowing/shuttering the DOE will have 3 catastrophic results: 1-Complete upheaval of services and funding for special education 2-Reduction/elimination of supplemental funding for low income schools 3-halt of investigation & enforcement of civil rights complaints in schools

Me, calling my senators and rep in a ruby red ultra-gerrymandered state On the outside: "Hello, as one of your constitutes I have a few concerns..." On the inside: Absolute face-melting rage

SpEd teachers are the special forces of the education workforce. They have the highest level of skill/expertise in an incredible range of skills (behavior management, assessment, instruction, law/policy, etc.). We need more special education teachers, not less.

DEI is also responsible for the sinking of the TItanic, the start of WWI, the Washington Generals incredible losing streak, and that time you crashed your bike when you were 9.

Next time one of my students asks about a course, I'm going to refer them to my 9-year old nephew. He's got as much official authority over classes as Vought currently has over the federal budget.

Just discovered the music I've been listing to in the waiting room for the last 20 minutes is from the XM channel, "Mom Jeans."

Great to see @natejones.bsky.social and Nicole Bucka quoted here. I have a great deal of respect for their work and their perspectives.

For anyone that needs the guidance that was once there, I encourage you to reach out to SpEd faculty at universities in your state. They are unequivocally the nicest and most helpful people with loads of knowledge to share.

@andyrichter.co can confirm. I'm sure he's got all the dirt on the band. I've also heard chatter there may be a reunion in the works, but it'll have to wait until hockey season is over.
