Me have written a BOOK! They always say you should write about what you KNOW, so mine is set in Court of King Louis XIV, where the silken threads of scandal, seduction and betrayal play out against the opulent tapestry of deceit... It called PUNCH IN FACE.👊

I’m calling for a Youth Mobility Scheme with Europe—just like we have with Australia and Canada—to let 18-30-year-olds live, work, and gain experience across the EU. Read my piece in Sussex Bylines 👇

Yup, @jamellebouie.net has this exactly right. What these guys are celebrating/pursuing/yearning for is not masculine energy, it's *adolescent* energy. Drinking Red Bull, crushing Call of Duty, refusing to clean your room. It is indescribably pathetic. www.nytimes.com/2025/01/18/o...

Jan. 6 Rioters Explain Why They Stormed The Capitol

It's Iceland day on BBC Radio Three today. They're presenting from Reykjavik. All very good and there's been Bjork, naturally. They mentioned Reykjavik cathedral earlier which is excellent. Pop by if you're in the area. I'm enjoying the whole thing enormously. @bbcradio3bot.bsky.social

What *exactly* is a social care commission going to tell us that we don't know? What is the magical cross-party solve that *multiple* com'ns & reviews, incl a Royal Com'n, have failed to find? The issue is funding. Its a political choice. MAKE THE CHOICE you're elected to make & get on with it

A real photo and perfect metaphor heading into 2025.

Tragically missing out on the chance to commemorate in drone form the biggest story of 2024 (The destruction of the Cpt Tom Memorial Spa)

you know who should be inducted into the rock and roll hall of fame? Sisyphus

The kind of ham I crave. Last year, caving in to novelty, I bought an oranges soaked / glazed ham. Which the shop were selling loads of. Unspeakably awful. Why do people like it? I don't throw food away, so found ways of trudging through to the last ounce. Horrible. Never again.

This single paragraph explanation of the 2008 financial crisis by Prof Mark Blyth cannot be shared enough. It will happen again. Please share

I’ve just received an extraordinary private letter from one of the Smyth victims to Justin Welby in which he implores the Archbishops of Canterbury and York to apologise formally for yesterday’s speech in the House of Lords. More details on my Times Radio show from 4.

Just popped into bus station cafe for coffee. Just realised that when I order a "regular" Cappuccino in my usual cafe what you get is a nice human sized coffee. Whereas here "regular" gets you a Land of the Giants take-a-swim-in-it vat of brown. I shall miss my bus if I try to finish it.

One of the great, truly underrated bands I think. Sufjan Stevens has a beautiful cover of ‘The Lakes of Canada’ and wrote a beautiful essay on it on his old blog I’ve never been able to find again – it’s a skeleton key to his whole songwriting style. Mysterious, utterly emotively charged, real.

Yes, libraries are invaluable for their collections and public services they offer, but also social contact without the expectation to interact with anyone or spend any money is so important to so many people

good for him! work-life balance is so important

How privatisation works (and Thames Water is just the latest example). 1. A government takes a national asset built up with taxpayers' money and the work of public servants over many years, and hands it, for a fraction of its value, to a private company. 2. In doing so, it creates a monopoly. 🧵

Sentence three should be carved into marble.

“The way a government treats its refugees is very instructive because it shows you how they would treat the rest of us if they thought they could get away with it.” - Tony Benn

Discussing Bluesky migration in terms of liberal flight misses the simple fact that most people use social media for fun not influence and this platform, unlike X and cruddified Facebook, doesn’t feel like you’re wading through shit to reach your friends. It’s not that deep.
